Sergei was born in the large industrial city of Novokuznetsk. He was brought up in a simple, working-class family, where his father was a miner and his mother a metallurgist. Hyperactive Sergei did not sit still for a second, he was constantly in a hurry somewhere, coming up with something.
To tame their son’s activity, his parents enrolled him in a specialized school with a sports focus. There he was assigned to a class where they trained hockey players.
Bobrovsky quickly mastered skating, confidently stayed on the ice and clearly followed all the instructions of the coach. At first he played as a striker, but due to an injury to the team's goalkeeper, there was a rotation and he was put in the frame. The tallest, most resilient and fastest player lived up to his mentor’s hopes.
Debut of professional hockey career
At the age of 18, Sergei began performing in the main team of the local HC Metallurg. From the first games, the guy demonstrated a high level of skill, but due to the financial difficulties of the club, his efforts were not enough.
The club's defensive line was one of the weakest in the Super League. This was to the benefit of the novice athlete, as he was able to gain experience.
Thanks to his fierce desire to win and leadership qualities, he was selected to participate in the Super League All-Star match.
After the end of the 2009-2010 season at Metallurg, Bobrovsky received an offer from the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers. He signed a contract with him for three years. An active, talented hockey player managed to surprise the team’s head coach at the summer training camp, who decided not to hesitate and appointed Sergei as the second goalkeeper. This was a rare occurrence for such young players. So, the Russian pushed Brian Boucher himself.
Just before the opening of the season, Philadelphia's main goalkeeper gets injured and is sent to the bench. Lucky Bobrovsky now took his place and opened the “pilots” season with a hot victory.
Sports experts described Sergei as the opening of the championship. Of the nine matches played, seven were victorious. A few months after the start of the NHL, the guy topped the list of top goalkeepers in the league, was recognized as the best debutant.
The next season, an unpleasant surprise awaited Sergei: the management of the Philadelphia Flyers HC signed a multimillion-dollar contract with another Russian goalkeeper Ilya Bryzgalov. This meant that the advantage in the frame would be given to his compatriot. And so it happened, Bobrovsky played only 4 games out of 14 matches.
In order not to sit uselessly on the bench, and not to lose fitness, Sergei agreed to a transfer to the Columbus Blue Jackets team. The choice turned out to be unjustified, because the composition there was frankly weak, the team did not rise up the standings, sitting in last place.
In between games in the NHL, Bobrovsky flew to his homeland, where he played for the army team. Towards the end of the season, Sergei caught the wave and brought his Columbus Blue Jackets team out of the list of outsiders. For which he received a significant prize - the Vezina Trophy, and with it the title of best goalkeeper in the NHL.
In 2014, Bobrovsky took part in the Olympic Games, which were held in his homeland in Sochi. In the first game for the Russian national team, Sergei did not perform very well and missed a lot of goals. Subsequent games were a little better, the hockey player did not miss any more goals, but the team did not score. As a result, the Russian team took fifth place.
Interesting notes:At the World Championships in Minsk, Bobrovsky was announced as the main goalkeeper. The guy selflessly defended the goal, not allowing the opponent to even get close to it. This attitude helped the Russian team get gold, and Sergei the title of “Best Goalkeeper”.
Happy husband
Unlike most Russian hockey players playing in the NHL, Bobrovsky does not advertise or promote himself, exposing his personal life.
Sergei is married to a Russian girl, Olga Dorokhova, whom he met at a ski resort.
They dated for several years, but the guy got tired of the constant flights from Russia to America.
Sergei proposed marriage to Olga, and in 2011 they legalized their relationship. The wedding was modest; among the guests there were only parents on both sides. Now the couple lives happily in America.

Sergei Bobrovsky
Russian professional hockey player, goalkeeper. He plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. A graduate of Novokuznetsk Metallurg, where the goalkeeper is from. He made his debut for the team at the age of 18 during the 2006/2007 season. He played for Metallurg until the summer of 2010, when his contract expired, after which he moved to America.
Bobrovsky did not participate in the NHL rookie draft and signed a three-year agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent. After the injury of the main goalkeeper Michael Leighton, he received a lot of game practice and showed himself successfully. In the summer of 2012, he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who had been interested in the goalkeeper for a long time.
When the lockout began in the NHL, he spent the first half of the season with SKA St. Petersburg. Returning to Columbus, he had a great end to the regular season and received the Vezina Trophy (award for the best goalkeeper). He became the first winner of such a prize among players from the territory of the former USSR. At the end of the 2016-2017 season, he won the Vezina Trophy for the second time. Bobrovsky's contract with Columbus is valid until the end of the 2018/2019 season.
As a member of the Russian national hockey team, he won world championship medals of all merits: bronze in 2016, silver in 2015 and gold in 2014.
Sergei Bobrovsky: the best moments
We present to your attention a selection of the best “saves” performed by Sergei Bobrovsky in the 2016/2017 NHL season, following which the Russian was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the league.
Sergei Bobrovsky became the first Russian hockey player to receive the NHL's Vezina Trophy. Many of the sporting feats of one of the best goalkeepers of the World Cup are inspired by the wife of Sergei Bobrovsky, Olga, who always worries about him in the stands of the stadiums where matches with his team are taking place. Sergei comes from the Russian club Metallurg, in whose children's sports school he took his first steps in hockey.
Sergei Bobrovsky and Olga Dorokhova, love story
They met at the Shereshgesh ski resort and immediately liked each other. Mutual sympathy soon grew into a stronger feeling, and the lovers decided to be together. Since then, vacations at ski resorts have become one of the Bobrovskys’ favorites, because that’s where their family started.
However, at first it was not always possible for Olga and Sergei to be constantly together - before the wedding, the hockey player’s future wife could not obtain an American visa, and they could only meet in Canada, in the cities where Bobrovsky’s Philadelphia Flyers team played.

To eliminate such difficulties from their personal lives, Bobrovsky and Dorokhova decided to get married quickly, and got married in August 2016. The ceremony took place in Russia in the presence of only the closest friends and relatives.
Having become Sergei’s wife, Olga could freely go with him everywhere, and they no longer have to be apart for a long time.
Olga took upon herself all the everyday problems, but she would like to realize herself in something else and be not just the wife of Sergei Bobrovsky, but also a self-sufficient person who has a favorite business.
Olga and Sergei do not have children yet, but they do not exclude the possibility that their family will grow in the near future.
Brief biography of Sergei Bobrovsky
Sergei Bobrovsky was born in Novokuznetsk into a working-class family - his father was a miner, and his mother worked at a metallurgical plant.

He went to study not in a regular school, but in a school with a sports bias, where he ended up in the “hockey class”, in which Sergei began to show excellent results from the very beginning. After graduating from school, he continued to play hockey in the Novokuznetsk club “Metallurg” and at the age of eighteen he made his first appearance in the main team.
The debut turned out to be very successful and in subsequent seasons his skill only grew. After the end of his contract with Metallurg, Sergei Bobrovsky moved to the NHL team Philadelphia Flyers, whose coach was initially going to loan him out, but after watching Sergei play in the training squad, he made him the second goalkeeper in the main one.
Two years later, Bobrovsky moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets and soon became the team's first goalkeeper. His game was so successful that very soon the Russian goalkeeper began to be called a real hockey star.
With his excellent play, Sergei helped the team rise in the standings and at the end of the season was named the best goalkeeper in the NHL.
During the break of the NHL championship, Sergei Bobrovsky played for SKA St. Petersburg, and this helped him stay in shape. Since 2014, Bobrovsky has been called up to the Russian hockey team, for the first time for which he played at the Olympics in Sochi, but the debut was a failure - Bobrovsky missed many goals and the team lost to the Americans in shootouts. But the Russian goalkeeper played the next two games brilliantly, without missing a single goal.
Bobrovsky also played “dry” matches at the championship in Belarus, which helped the Russians become champions, and Sergei was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. According to experts, Bobrovsky has the best percentage of reflected shots of the World Championship and the highest reliability coefficient.

BEST GOALKEEPER IN THE WORLD!
Sergei Bobrovsky is one of the best hockey goalkeepers in the world. He is the first and so far the only Russian player in history to receive the Vezina Trophy as the best goalkeeper in the NHL. I want to tell you about Sergei’s first steps in hockey, about his path to the title of the best goalkeeper in the NHL.
Childhood
Sergey was born on September 20, 1988 in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo region. Since his hometown is one of the largest coal mining centers in Russia, most residents are directly related to the mining profession. It was this hard work that Sergei’s father did, and his mother worked at a metallurgical plant - the second most important industry in the town.
Studied in sports class
Sergei Bobrovsky was brought into hockey by his parents. According to his mother, little Seryozha was a very energetic child from birth, and it was clear for a long time that he would play some kind of sport. They decided to send Sergei to secondary school No. 52, with a sports focus, where they enroll hockey classes every year.
“That year we recruited more than a hundred people, so I noticed Sergei only about two months after the start of training,” recalls the first coach Alexey Kitsyn. - He learned to ride very quickly. And in general, he did everything better than others even then. Since childhood, he played well not only hockey, but also football, volleyball, and basketball. Even then it was clear that he was a leader.
We sewed the uniform ourselves
Sergei Bobrovsky could probably become both a good striker and a good defender. But fate turned differently. When Bobrovsky was still in first grade, the team goalkeeper fell ill and the coach, not knowing who to appoint, asked the guys if there were anyone willing to take his place. Sergei volunteered. And with this act he predetermined his future.
“Well, that’s when we started collecting our uniforms,” coach Alexei Kitsyn continues to recall. — There was no children’s one, so I had to buy an adult one, and alter it, customize it. Shields, traps, everything was made by hand. And the skates were made from figure skates: their blade width is the same as hockey skates, that’s why they were chosen. Of course, they had to be ground down, adjusted, and everything unnecessary was removed. Later, one of the mines got us uniforms, but at first Sergei played on homemade skates and in a homemade uniform.
I believe that Sergei was able to achieve a lot because several factors came together at once,” says Alexey Kitsyn. - The guy had a lot of necessary and good things in his family. Again - character, the desire to be on top and the ability to constantly work and not rest on your laurels. When he was first recruited to the national team, I was asked a question: has Seryoga always worked like this? An hour before the ice, an hour after the ice... many people need to be forced and convinced of the need for a good warm-up. And Sergei himself understood this very well. And then I became even more convinced that Bobrovsky would achieve a lot. I am sincerely glad that he was entrusted with a place in the national team. He deserves it and will prove the correctness of his choice more than once with his performance.
Teachers don't have to blush
Hockey took first place in Sergei’s life. At school they remember that Bobrovsky was an average student, from C to B, and it happened more than once that he came without completing his homework, however, like many other classmates.
“We understood that these guys had a heavy workload: in the morning their training began at 6.45 am, and Sergei had to come here from a remote area of the city, where the journey even then took at least 40 minutes,” recalls Russian language and literature teacher Tatyana Kolomiychenko. “After lessons, they went to training again, and only then returned home. But unlike other guys who constantly dreamed out loud that they would become famous hockey players, Sergei never talked about it. I got the impression that he was simply sure of it. Despite his unfinished homework, Bobrovsky took his studies seriously. And, according to the teacher, she has not yet had to blush for her student when he gives an interview.
For the team "Metallurg"
Sergei grew up and earned a place on the Metallurg hockey team in Novokuznetsk. He made his debut in the main team at the age of eighteen (in the 2006-2007 season). The following season, Sergei took to the ice much more often, demonstrating his skills to the team and fans. However, this did not help Metallurg improve their success in the Kontinental Hockey League. HC Metallurg was considered one of the weakest clubs in the league; Bobrovsky had a lot of shots on goal every game, thanks to which he quickly gained experience. Sergei played for Metallurg until 2010, until his contract expired.
Start in the NHL
In May 2010, Sergei Bobrovsky signed a 3-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers (USA). Coach Peter Lavioletta, the Flyers' mentor, decided to play Bobrovsky in the opening match of the season, against Pittsburgh. The Russian lived up to all expectations. Sergei successfully repelled about 30 shots into his own goal and brought such an important victory for the team. In 14 matches, the young hockey player won 11 victories, thanks to which he was recognized as the best rookie of the month.
Columbus Blue Jackets
In the summer of 2012, Sergei Bobrovsky became the goalkeeper of the Columbus Blue Jackets, a team for which making the playoffs seemed an incredible task. By the winter of 2013, Sergei became the number 1 goalkeeper in the team, largely thanks to him, the team spent an amazing period of time without defeat. In a short time, Bobrovsky, whose play was simply phenomenal, became a real hockey star. It was as part of this club that Sergei won the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper in the NHL.
Russian team
Sergei Bobrovsky made his debut for the Russian national team in 2014 at the Olympic Games in Sochi. The first game against the American team was a failure for the goalkeeper - the Russians lost in shootouts, and Sergei missed quite a lot of goals in these one-on-one matches. He played the next two games “to zero”, that is, he did not miss a single goal during the match, but the Russian team took only fifth place at the home Olympics. The main goalkeeper Semyon Varlamov made too many mistakes. Therefore, at the World Championships in Belarus, Bobrovsky was already goalkeeper No. 1. As a result, Russian hockey players became champions, and Sergei was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Lessons from the best NHL goalie
Having become a famous hockey player, Sergei Bobrovsky remained the same: star fever passed him by. And although he doesn’t come to Novokuznetsk often, when he was in his hometown in the summer of 2013, he was happy to conduct a master class for children. Sergei showed the boys how to move correctly in the goal, place the skate to the post, roll out to the attacker, play with a stick and a trap. And many many others...
“It was important for me to tell the guys some technical nuances,” says Sergei Bobrovsky, “purely goalkeeping ones.” At first glance it seems that these are small things, but they give a very big plus to goalkeepers. I said what I do in certain situations on the ice, shared my system of play.
Now Sergei Bobrovsky continues to play for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Foreign experts note his excellent athletic form, high responsibility and incredible perseverance in training, which then leads to excellent results in games.
Interesting fact
Sergey is an opponent of social networks. He has repeatedly stated that he does not have a single page on the Internet and believes that those who spend too much time on social networks waste time that they could use for more necessary purposes, such as study, sports, and useful activities.
Interesting fact:
At the Sheregesh ski resort, Sergei Bobrovsky met Olga Dorokhova and soon the young people realized that they could not live without each other. On August 16, 2011, a wedding ceremony took place, the only witnesses of which were the parents.
Sergei Bobrovsky was born in Novokuznetsk on September 20, 1988. Serezha’s parents, although not in any way connected with professional sports (his father worked at a mine for many years, and his mother at a metallurgical plant), but always loved to participate in various sporting events.
Hockey school
From a very young age, Sergei was an energetic child, and therefore his parents had no doubts that their child would play some kind of sport. That is why it was decided to send Seryozha to a school with a sports focus, where students not only learned the basics of science, but also seriously played hockey. Such famous hockey players as Dmitry Zinoviev and Maxim Kitsyn began at this educational institution. As Alexei Kitsyn, Bobrovsky’s first coach, recalls, that year about a hundred people were recruited into the hockey class, and therefore he noticed Sergei only a couple of months after the start of training. Bobrovsky grasped everything literally on the fly, he quickly learned to skate and even then his

He made his debut in the main squad at the age of eighteen (in the 2006-2007 season), successfully playing several matches. In the subsequent season, Sergei appeared on the ice much more often, demonstrating his skills to the team and fans. However, this did not help Metallurg improve its game statistics, and the team’s regression continued. In 14 matches, the young hockey player won 11 victories, thanks to which he was recognized as the best rookie of the month. However, the lack of experience still made itself felt, and Bobrovsky did not play very well in the playoffs.
In the summer of 2011, Philadelphia signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Ilya Bryzgalov, a Russian goalkeeper. As a result, there were two goalkeepers left in the main team - Bobrovsky and Bryzgalov. However, more and more often it was Ilya who took to the ice, and Sergei sat on the bench. So, out of 14 matches, he took part in only 4.

In 2010, Sergei was declared in the national team for the 2010 World Cup. Vyacheslav Bykov, the main coach of the team, decided to select hockey players to participate in the national team without NHL players and athletes who continued the battle for the Gagarin Cup. Among these reserves was Bobrovsky, who played a draw with Italy.
In 2012, Sergei played for the Russian team at the Karjala Cup. Despite the fact that Bobrovsky successfully played the 2012/2013 season, Varlamov and Bryzgalov were invited to the national team for the 2013 World Cup.
