Born September 20, 1987 in Nalchik
Graduated from the Faculty of Law of Dag State University
He has been practicing freestyle wrestling since he was 8 years old.
Performs in the category up to 120 kg
Bilyal Makhov succeeded as a wrestler in Khasavyurt. He moved to this city from Kabardino-Balkaria, where he was from and where he started wrestling. The parents were not very inclined to let Bilyal go, but Magomed Huseynov convinced them. Then the name Makhov did not mean anything to anyone, but the coach saw talent in the future winner of world championships. “I always dreamed of training a wrestler who could compete with the Ossetian heavyweights,” Magomed Huseynov once noted, speaking about his ward, who fully lives up to the hopes of his mentor.
It is curious that at first Bilyal performed equally successfully in two styles of wrestling, which is a unique case in our time. At the World Youth Championships in 2005, he won gold in the freestyle tournament and became a bronze medalist in the Greco-Roman competition.
To continue to perform successfully among adults, Bilal needed to focus on one of the types of wrestling, and he chose freestyle. 2007 was significant for the Khasavyurt resident, when he won the World Championship for the first time. After that, he was out of competition twice more at these competitions, and in 2010 in Moscow in the final he surpassed two-time Olympic champion Artur Taymazov, who was considered the world leader in the heavyweight category. Only in 2011, Bilyal was unable to climb to the highest step of the World Championship podium, then in the fight for the gold medal he lost to Belarusian Alexei Shemarov. However, despite this misfire, Makhov’s chances of winning the upcoming Olympics were considered higher than those of any of his competitors. But, unfortunately, Bilyal failed to confirm his leadership in the world, and in London, losing to Georgian Davit Modzmanashvili in the semi-finals, he took third place. However, seven years later, after rechecking the doping tests, the Georgian heavyweight was caught using prohibited drugs, he was disqualified, and his silver medal was awarded to the Dagestan wrestler.
At his second Olympics - in 2016 in Rio - Makhov remained below the medal list. And before that he won three bronze medals at the world championships. Moreover, two of them were at the 2015 World Championships qualifying for the Olympics in Las Vegas, where he performed in freestyle and Greco-Roman styles. In ancient times, wrestlers often competed in two styles, but for modern wrestling this is a unique case.

Bilyal Makhov, whose biography is described in this article, is a Kabardian wrestler in Greco-Roman and freestyle. Repeated champion (Russia, world, Europe). Could not become an Olympic medalist in Beijing due to mercury poisoning on the eve of the competition. He is one of the strongest heavyweights in the world.
Childhood
Bilyal Makhov, whose biography, family and sports successes are described in this article, was born on September 20, 1987 in Kabardino-Balkaria, in Nalchik. He is the eldest of the children in the family. Bilyal has a younger brother and sister. Since childhood, my father tried to instill in all his children a love of sports. He often showed me various exercises for self-development.Sportsmanship
As a result, Makhov Bilyal began playing sports in the third grade, at the age of nine. First, I signed up for freestyle wrestling at the DKS. Ashnokov became Makhov’s first coach. When Bilyal’s family moved to Armavir, there was no freestyle wrestling sports section, but I didn’t want to give up training, and Makhov chose the second direction - Greco-Roman wrestling. After entering the Khasavyurt Olympic Reserve University, Bilyal again switched to freestyle. It turned out that now the athlete is fluent in two types of wrestling at the same time.
Education
Bilyal Makhov studied at primary secondary school No. 9 in Nalchik. While still at school, I decided to connect my life with sports, so I chose educational institutions according to my interests. Studied in Krasnodar and Armavir. Graduated from music school. In Khasavyurt he graduated from the Olympic Reserve School.Sports career
Already at the age of ten, Makhov stood out among his peers for his talent. When Bilyal turned 14 years old, at the Southern Federal District championship, Gadzhi Gadzhiev, a Dagestan coach, paid close attention to the teenager. He immediately invited Makhov to study with him. Bilyal did not hesitate for a second and immediately agreed.Already in 2005, the young wrestler became the world champion in junior competitions. He repeated his success the following year. In 2007, he appeared in the ring already in the adult category, at competitions in Nalchik. Again the victory remained with Bilyal. In 2007, he again received the championship title, pinning Kuramagomed Kuramagomedov in the final of the World Cup.
Missed the Beijing Olympics
At the age of 21, Makhov Bilyal wanted to participate in the Olympic Games held in Beijing. But at the Yarygin tournament, the wrestler suddenly felt unwell. This happened at a time when Makhov and the Dagestan team were in a training center preparing for the Olympics. The Yarygin tournament was a qualifying tournament and was held a week before the world games. After training, Makhov was lying on the bed in his hotel room and watching TV, when suddenly everything swam before his eyes and his head began to spin. Severe nausea began. The arriving doctors diagnosed poisoning and sent the athlete to the hospital for gastric lavage.
Makhov lay under a drip for two days, the weakness in his body was very strong. But the European World Cup was at stake, and the wrestler decided to compete anyway. The fact that it turned out to be not simple food poisoning, but mercury poisoning, became known only in Krasnoyarsk, when the athlete became ill again. It turned out that the level of poison in the blood was 35 times higher than normal.
Makhov’s recovery was long and difficult. Recovery was very slow, and before the Olympics he was never able to get into the ring. As a result, I missed the most prestigious and coveted competitions. It was clear that someone had poisoned the athlete, but Makhov did not identify this person.
He considered that after the investigation had begun, he would have to suspect, and then blame, one of those who was his comrade, since Bilyal, like everyone else, ate from a common cauldron. The wrestler did not want to be disappointed in the people close and dear to him, and simply hushed up this attempt on his life.
Return to sports
Many assumed that Makhov would never return to the sport, but Bilyal proved the opposite. After a full recovery, the wrestler made up for lost time and began active training again. Repeatedly won the CSKA Cup. In 2012 he won a brilliant victory in England.Loud victories
Makhov Bilyal dreamed of performing at the Olympic Games since childhood. The fact that he missed the Beijing Games due to illness did not stop the athlete. After numerous trainings and victories, he finally got to the Summer Olympics, which was held in London. And finally, he became a winner. Two years later, at the World Championships in Las Vegas, Makhov won bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling. Bilyal received a medal of the same value for freestyle. In 2015, Makhov was offered a very lucrative contract with a mixed martial arts organization. His signing was supposed to take place only after the 2016 Olympics.
Personal life
Bilyal Makhov did not escape the snares of love either. The wife (whose photo is very difficult to see anywhere), however, has nothing to do with sports at all. Makhov's wife is his fellow countryman. They got married after the Olympic Games in 2012.Hobbies and passions
Makhov Bilyal is not only interested in sports. He loves music very much, and at one time even graduated from music school. The athlete plays the piano beautifully. His favorite piece is “Moonlight Sonata”. In addition to music, Makhov is interested in football. Favorite team: Barcelona.Bilyal loves sweets. He can eat it in huge quantities. For example, one cake at a time. As a result, before each competition the athlete had to go on a strict diet and lose 17 kilograms of excess weight. The coach of the Russian national team, Makhty Makkaev, helped correct this by developing a special diet for Bilyal.
He still tries to stick to it. Makhov himself notes that giving up sweets had a positive effect on his body. Breathing became much easier, weight stabilized, greater endurance appeared and reactions became much faster. ( 1987-09-20 ) (31 year)

Excerpt characterizing Makhov, Bilyal Valerievich
Pierre, as one of the most honored guests, was to sit in Boston with Ilya Andreich, the general and colonel. Pierre had to sit opposite Natasha at the Boston table, and the strange change that had occurred in her since the day of the ball amazed him. Natasha was silent, and not only was she not as good-looking as she was at the ball, but she would have been bad if she had not looked so meek and indifferent to everything."What with her?" thought Pierre, looking at her. She sat next to her sister at the tea table and reluctantly, without looking at him, answered something to Boris, who sat down next to her. Having walked away the whole suit and taken five bribes to the satisfaction of his partner, Pierre, who heard the chatter of greetings and the sound of someone’s steps entering the room while collecting bribes, looked at her again.
“What happened to her?” he said to himself even more surprised.
Prince Andrei stood in front of her with a thrifty, tender expression and told her something. She, raising her head, flushed and apparently trying to control her gusty breathing, looked at him. And the bright light of some inner, previously extinguished fire burned in her again. She was completely transformed. From being bad she again became the same as she was at the ball.
Prince Andrey approached Pierre and Pierre noticed a new, youthful expression on his friend’s face.
Pierre changed seats several times during the game, now with his back, now facing Natasha, and throughout the entire 6 Roberts made observations of her and his friend.
“Something very important is happening between them,” thought Pierre, and the joyful and at the same time bitter feeling made him worry and forget about the game.
After 6 Roberts, the general stood up, saying that it was impossible to play like that, and Pierre received his freedom. Natasha was talking to Sonya and Boris on one side, Vera was talking about something with a subtle smile to Prince Andrei. Pierre went up to his friend and, asking if what was being said was a secret, sat down next to them. Vera, noticing Prince Andrei's attention to Natasha, found that at an evening, at a real evening, it was necessary that there be subtle hints of feelings, and seizing the time when Prince Andrei was alone, she began a conversation with him about feelings in general and about her sister . With such an intelligent guest (as she considered Prince Andrei) she needed to apply her diplomatic skills to the matter.
When Pierre approached them, he noticed that Vera was in a smug rapture of conversation, Prince Andrei (which rarely happened to him) seemed embarrassed.
– What do you think? – Vera said with a subtle smile. “You, prince, are so insightful and so immediately understand the character of people.” What do you think about Natalie, can she be constant in her affections, can she, like other women (Vera meant herself), love a person once and remain faithful to him forever? This is what I consider true love. What do you think, prince?
“I know your sister too little,” answered Prince Andrei with a mocking smile, under which he wanted to hide his embarrassment, “to resolve such a delicate question; and then I noticed that the less I like a woman, the more constant she is,” he added and looked at Pierre, who came up to them at that time.
- Yes, it’s true, prince; in our time,” Vera continued (mentioning our time, as narrow-minded people generally like to mention, believing that they have found and appreciated the features of our time and that the properties of people change over time), in our time a girl has so much freedom that le plaisir d"etre courtisee [the pleasure of having admirers] often drowns out the true feeling in her. Et Nathalie, il faut l"avouer, y est tres sensible. [And Natalya, I must admit, is very sensitive to this.] The return to Natalie again made Prince Andrei frown unpleasantly; he wanted to get up, but Vera continued with an even more refined smile.
“I think no one was courtisee [the object of courtship] like her,” said Vera; - but never, until very recently, did she seriously like anyone. “You know, Count,” she turned to Pierre, “even our dear cousin Boris, who was, entre nous [between us], very, very dans le pays du tendre... [in the land of tenderness...]
Prince Andrei frowned and remained silent.
– You’re friends with Boris, aren’t you? - Vera told him.
- Yes, I know him…
– Did he tell you correctly about his childhood love for Natasha?
– Was there childhood love? - Prince Andrei suddenly asked, blushing unexpectedly.
- Yes. Vous savez entre cousin et cousine cette intimate mene quelquefois a l"amour: le cousinage est un dangereux voisinage, N"est ce pas? [You know, between a cousin and sister, this closeness sometimes leads to love. Such kinship is a dangerous neighborhood. Is not it?]
“Oh, without a doubt,” said Prince Andrei, and suddenly, unnaturally animated, he began joking with Pierre about how he should be careful in his treatment of his 50-year-old Moscow cousins, and in the middle of the joking conversation he stood up and, taking under Pierre's arm and took him aside.
- Well? - said Pierre, looking with surprise at the strange animation of his friend and noticing the look that he cast at Natasha as he stood up.
“I need, I need to talk to you,” said Prince Andrei. – You know our women’s gloves (he was talking about those Masonic gloves that were given to a newly elected brother to give to his beloved woman). “I... But no, I’ll talk to you later...” And with a strange sparkle in his eyes and anxiety in his movements, Prince Andrei approached Natasha and sat down next to her. Pierre saw Prince Andrei ask her something, and she flushed and answered him.
But at this time Berg approached Pierre, urgently asking him to take part in the dispute between the general and the colonel about Spanish affairs.
Berg was pleased and happy. The smile of joy did not leave his face. The evening was very good and exactly like other evenings he had seen. Everything was similar. And ladies', delicate conversations, and cards, and a general at cards, raising his voice, and a samovar, and cookies; but one thing was still missing, something that he always saw at the evenings, which he wanted to imitate.
There was a lack of loud conversation between men and an argument about something important and smart. The general started this conversation and Berg attracted Pierre to him.
The next day, Prince Andrei went to the Rostovs for dinner, as Count Ilya Andreich called him, and spent the whole day with them.
Everyone in the house felt for whom Prince Andrei was traveling, and he, without hiding, tried to be with Natasha all day. Not only in Natasha’s frightened, but happy and enthusiastic soul, but in the whole house one could feel the fear of something important that was about to happen. The Countess looked at Prince Andrei with sad and seriously stern eyes when he spoke to Natasha, and timidly and feignedly began some insignificant conversation as soon as he looked back at her. Sonya was afraid to leave Natasha and was afraid to be a hindrance when she was with them. Natasha turned pale with fear of anticipation when she remained alone with him for minutes. Prince Andrei amazed her with his timidity. She felt that he needed to tell her something, but that he could not bring himself to do so.
Over a 20-year sports career, Bilyal Makhov became the champion of almost all key competitions in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, only one height has not yet been conquered by him - the Olympics. The athlete told KAVPOLIT what caused the failure in Rio, about doping scandals and his plans in the UFC.
- Bilyal, it was nice to see you in Nalchik at the opening of the Olympic Walk of Fame, especially surrounded by a huge number of fans. People in the republic love you.
- Why not? The fact that I left for Dagestan does not mean anything. On the contrary, it is rather a plus not only for me, but also for the republic. It doesn’t matter where I live now, it doesn’t change my blood, I was born here, my parents are from here, and no matter where I am, I will always be a son of my people.
I have been performing in professional sports for quite a long time, over the years there have been ups and downs. And those who came to the Alley that day probably wanted to support me during this not entirely successful period for me.
- N How important is the opening of the Olympic Walk of Fame in Nalchik, where your name and the names of famous athletes are- champions and prize-winners of games of different years?
- We have relatively recently reached the international sports level and cannot yet compete, for example, with Dagestan or Ossetian Olympians. They have just begun to gain momentum, so such objects - good motivation for young people.

This year, the country's Olympic team included three athletes from Kabardino-Balkaria. Gold of Beslan Mudranov, silver of Aniuar Geduev for boys who do not yet know where to direct their energy, - good example. Walking along this alley, they will read the names and begin to wonder who Boris Shukhov, Khadzhimurat Akkaev, Aslanbek Khushtov, Zaur Kuramagomedov are. Maybe this will draw them into the halls.
Today there is a tense situation in the republic. We, Caucasians, - impulsive, the blood is hot, emotions, energy are off the charts, all this must be directed in the right direction. Yes, there are fundamental principles of education that the family gives us, but we must admit: the influence of the street, company, and society is great.
Such events popularize children who have benefited the country and the republic. Young people should follow their example and not follow those who lead to destruction.

Target- Olympics
- Bilyal, I can’t help but ask about the Olympics in Rio. After all, you were one hundred percent ready, the coaches were betting on you, the gold was already in the piggy bank. But what happened? Lost control of the fight?
- I ask myself this question. This is the third Olympics in my career. During the games in Beijing, it is clear that external factors influenced the result of the fight, and this can justify the failure. At the games in London, my gold was also calculated in advance, but it didn’t work out there either.
The Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was supposed to be revenge for all the previous games, victory was definitely in the bag. I was in great shape. Coaches noted this in sparring, the training process, and psychological attitude.
You know, in 20 years of my sports career, for the first time, nothing hurt me, not a single injury bothered me. Physically, nothing stood in the way of winning. But again, for the first time in my twenty-year career, I was left without a medal.
Wrestling is an unpredictable, unstable sport. It is impossible to predict the course of the fight. Therefore, you go out onto the mat in an emotional mood, so to speak, with an angry charge for the fight.
I realized that I was head and shoulders above everyone else, stronger - and began to think about the fight: somewhere he was cautious, trying to save his strength. Previously, even if I was not in good enough shape, I would go out on the mat and give it my all.
This time, maybe due to age and experience, I decided to fight using my brains. I was sure that I would reach the final while I was fighting with Zaseev, I even managed to calculate my next opponent. These thoughts and confidence got in my way.
As it turned out, the struggle does not forgive this. This fight - another experience for me. This means that I haven’t learned everything about this sport yet, and it’s too early to leave it.
- Of course, pressure from the audience and the hopes of the coaches could not but affect the results. What helped you cope with post-Olympic feelings?
- I had different periods in my sports career - ups, downs. The falls were so bad that even the doctors couldn’t guarantee that I’d be able to get back on the mat. And then the fans and coaches hoped for me.
But I know for sure that after the disappointment brought to wrestling fans, there will be victories.

- Based on your words, will there be a fourth Olympics?
- Quite possible. But right now I want to take a little break. For a long time, due to training, training camps, and competitions, I was away from the family. My wife has to endure a lot, so for now I’ll take care of my family, step away from sports a little, and take my mind off negative thoughts.
If everything goes well, including physically, I will, of course, not refuse the fourth Olympics. But I already said: struggle - An unpredictable sport, we can only hope that our health will allow us to fight for more than one Olympic cycle.
- Bilyal, the Rio Olympics were full of doping scandals. Probably the last straw was the decision to deprive the deceased Besik Kudukhov of his medal. It turns out that sports and politics can be equated?
- The Olympics cannot be outside of politics. For example, medal count - It’s unofficial, but the results are being summed up. Every day in the news they say: according to the unofficial medal standings, Russia is in fifth, fourth place, America is in the lead.
Yes, they say, sport is above political differences. People from all over the world gather to compete in fair competition to see who can swim the fastest, jump the highest, and lift the most weights.
But on the other hand, the Olympics - an indicator of the power and strength of a country. Successful performance of athletes - evidence of the health of the nation, the success of the state, and the good genetics of the people.

Immediately after victory, nothing is detected in the athlete’s blood, but after two Olympic cycles, suddenly some prohibited things are found in the samples. Allegedly, they have improved technologies that allow more accurate research.
Yes, on the one hand, this is a fight for the purity of sport, records, and achievements. But today doping control has become a tool for the balance of power. What I'm talking about: if a country has taken the lead, it needs to be besieged in order to equalize the situation in another country.
They turn a blind eye to the results of some athletes and prefer not to notice the presence of prohibited substances. And in the analyzes of others they begin to scrutinize scrupulously.
There will be no obstacles
- Before the Olympics in Rio, you signed a contract according to which you will compete in fights without rules. Does it still apply?
- Yes, but I want to explain why I decided to compete in the UFC in the first place. Firstly, intrigue, interest in something new. On the other hand, the contract does not oblige me to enter the Octagon in a short time.
Participation in the UFC should not interfere with or interfere with professional sports. I can go into the octagon when I'm ready. The only encumbrance - You can only compete in the American Mixed Martial Arts League.

- You are the owner of many victories, medals, championship titles. Do you see an opponent for yourself in the UFC, who can fight you?
- At the moment, all fighters can compete on an equal footing with me. I'm a professional in wrestling, but mixed martial arts - a completely different sport, in which, so to speak, I am still a zero. Therefore, I can’t talk about my opponents in advance. First you need to prepare, and then evaluate your capabilities.
- Yes, you said mixed martial arts- a completely different sport, and you, the wrestler, will have to add punches...
- The holders of championship belts in this sport are mostly former wrestlers. Yes, striking techniques are present, but it is easier for coaches to work with wrestlers, since they are not initially loaded with striking techniques. We are like babies who can be taught from scratch.
I will train at KDOJO, I have been to the base several times. Murat Keshtov created maximum conditions for athletes. There are many Caucasians in the club. Initially, this was the only club through which our guys tried to get into the American Fight League.
There is no anger
- You have had to experience a lot. Everyone remembers the terrible story of mercury poisoning. How are you feeling today?
- Why do I want to take a break and rest right now? Sports activities overload the body and waste resources. Before the poisoning, I could give increased loads. But today I can’t afford it, my body has spent all its reserves to get me out of that difficult situation.
Professional sports - This is not morning exercises, you need to give your best at every workout, and in my case, in parallel there is additional control over the body.
It takes a lot of effort and energy. Poisoning, of course, affects the entire preparation process; I cannot, like other athletes, just train and go to rest. But at the moment I feel good.
If I want to continue to engage in professional sports at a high level, there must be constant control over the work of the body. But there is nothing wrong with all this. I like to play sports, and these moments do not burden me.

- Bilyal, what importance does religion have in your life? Let me explain why I asked this question. After the Olympics in London, many associated your bronze medal with fasting: that the stress supposedly prevented you from giving your best.
- Life and religion cannot exist without each other. It is easier to overcome difficulties and problems when you have faith in your soul. Everyone seeks spiritual satisfaction themselves. For some it is music, for others it is work, but for me it is religion.
As for the talk about the post, which allegedly prevented him from giving his best in London, - it is not true. I don’t know who benefits them, the enemies or my fans, who in this way wanted to support me and justify that failure.
There are concessions in religion; a person is not prescribed what he cannot do. For example, on the road a traveler may miss a post and then make up for it later.
Faith has helped and continues to help me in difficult situations. After the poisoning, I could become embittered, wish harm to those who did this to me, think why all this happened to me, waste time and energy on unnecessary emotions.
But I released the situation to the judgment of the Almighty, and I felt better. Religion made it possible not to withdraw, but to move on. She set me free.
Evil returns to the one who committed it. Understanding this makes it possible to direct energy to more important, useful and necessary things. Now, because of the loss in Rio, I could engage in self-criticism, think how sad everything is around, how hard life is, that I prepared so much and lost.
But faith helped me here too. Maybe I showed arrogance, considering myself a professor in sports, and this prevented me from winning. The Almighty showed: you can’t behave like this, even with such a wealth of experience, you need to be alert, responsible for every step you take in life.
Before the Rio Olympics, there were thoughts of taking gold and not returning to wrestling. But now I understand: the Almighty has shown that it is too early to leave sports, not all emotions have been spilled out yet, there is still an opportunity to move forward.

- I think there is no journalist who would not ask you about the piano. And I won't be original.
- Recently, television journalists came to me and simply forced me to do something that I had never done - play the piano on camera.
My mother really wanted me to play a musical instrument. Of course, no one predicted a great musical career. I set myself the goal of learning to play for my mother. I learned a few tunes and lost interest.
It used to be that at training camps, if you have an instrument, you sit down and play. You should see the surprise of the guys, the base workers: how can a wrestler play the piano?
Now, of course, I’m not returning to music, I only have time for sports - he is my professional activity and hobby at the same time. If I'm not training, I'm studying everything related to sports, my body, and medicine. Some consider athletes to be uneducated people, but it was sports that awakened in me an interest in reading and studying special medical literature. I don’t need to take a break from sports, I never get tired of it.
- Thank you for the interesting conversation.
- I want to tell my fans not to be upset. If I brought disappointment to someone with my performance in Brazil, very soon I will try to please them with new victories.
2Makhov Bilyal is a famous Kabardian wrestler who performs in Greco-Roman and freestyle. He is a three-time world champion, as well as a champion of Russia and Europe. As a youth, I did not go to the World Cup because I had to make the Hajj to Mecca. He was poisoned on the eve of the Olympic Games in Beijing. After that, few believed in his return to the ring. But the athlete showed the will and returned to delight and surprise his fans. In this article you will be presented with a short biography of Bilyal Makhov. So let's get started.
A chidhood dream
Many people call Bilyal Makhov unique. All of Dagestan and all of Kabardino-Balkaria are praying for this fighter. After all, the fight in the North Caucasus is a top priority. Every boy's dream is to become a famous wrestler. By the way, it is much more popular there than Greco-Roman. Therefore, there is fierce competition between athletes. And of course, high unemployment plays a role. You can achieve something in life only through sports. And every child understands this very clearly. Therefore, training in clubs goes from six in the morning until nine in the evening. Moreover, the halls are not empty for a single minute. The work there is so hot that there is just a fog from the sweat. The hero of our article came out of such a hall.
First success
Bilyal Makhov (nationality - Kabardian) achieved his first serious results in 2005. He won the Russian championship in Greco-Roman and freestyle. The athlete also won the world championship and received bronze in the “classics” at similar competitions. This happened after Bilal's hajj to Mecca. For the sake of this event, he refused to participate in the World Youth Championship and never regretted it. The wrestler believes that this helped him reach a new spiritual level.
Poisoned Olympics
Success followed on Makhov’s heels. In 2007, at the World Championships, he pinned the famous wrestler Kuramagomedov. That year, Bilyal became a discovery for the Russian Olympic Committee and the main contender for a trip to Beijing. Most likely, Makhov would have won the Olympics, but fate decreed otherwise. At the beginning of 2008, at the Yarygin tournament, Bilyal was poisoned with mercury. At that moment, the athlete was at a training camp at the Olympic Training Center. A week before the start of the tournament, Makhov was diagnosed with acute food poisoning. But the doctors did not attach much importance to this.
The wrestler went to Krasnoyarsk for the Yarygin Memorial. There Makhov Bilyal won bronze. In his hotel room he suddenly became ill. The athlete felt extremely nauseous and felt very dizzy. Bilyal was urgently hospitalized and his stomach was pumped out. For two days he was on a drip. The European Championship started soon, and Makhov had a strong weakness. We found out about it only upon arrival in Moscow. Its content in the blood exceeded the norm by 35 times.
Rehabilitation and proceedings
(President of Kabardino-Balkaria) immediately suggested that Makhov undergo rehabilitation in an Austrian clinic. At one time, Viktor Yushchenko was treated there. But the wrestler had a chance to qualify for Beijing, so Bilyal Makhov did not go on sick leave. From that moment on, the athlete began a dark streak: he injured his knee, elbow and lost the Russian Championship. After this, Bilyal underwent a long course of cleansing the body. Makhov did not find out who was to blame. The beginning of an investigation would put at risk not only the members of the national team (Bilal ate with them from a common pot), but also the athlete’s friends, as well as the residents of Dagestan.
By the way, in addition to Makhov, two more Dagestan athletes applied for a trip to Beijing. Thanks to the sponsorship of Suleiman Kerimov, the winning prize ranged from $500 thousand to $1 million. So, if he wins, Bilyal could become the wealthiest athlete in the Russian Federation. But the athlete watched the Olympics only on TV in an Austrian clinic. Makhov was treated for a whole year. During this time, he repeatedly thought about leaving the sport. But the support of coaches and colleagues helped him make the right decision and stay. The question of who poisoned the athlete will apparently remain unanswered forever.
Return and victories
In 2009, Makhov Bilyal returned to the sport and won the Russian Championship. Then there was one European championship, three national ones, as well as three championships, where the wrestler won silver and two gold. After poisoning, it was very difficult for Bilal to regain his previous form. But he decided to start preparing for the 2012 Olympics. As a result, the athlete took only third place.
During the break (from 2009 to 2011) there were a number of victories at the World Championships. In 2010, Makhov’s weight reached 137 kilograms. Losing 17 kilograms before tournaments was difficult for the wrestler. So Bilal decided to change his diet. Makhty Makkaev, who trains weightlifters, helped him with this.
Diet
Bilyal Makhov, whose height is 196 centimeters, is still on this diet. For breakfast, the athlete eats oatmeal, fruit, a light sandwich, salad, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs (4 eggs), thereby receiving 2000 calories. At lunchtime this figure doubles. The evening calorie count is 2500-3000. At the beginning of the diet, the wrestler felt terrible hunger and, in order to somehow drown it out, he drank a little kefir at night. Although Bilyal used to “absorb” an immense amount of sweets. I could easily eat a whole cake while watching a movie. Thanks to the diet, his weight stabilized around 119-120 kilograms. The wrestler became stronger and faster.
Conclusion
Now Bilyal Makhov, whose wife supports all the athlete’s endeavors, bears the title “the strongest heavyweight on the planet.” He still dreams of winning gold at the Olympics. Makhov was confident that he would receive the highest award in London in 2012. In an interview, the wrestler directly stated that he was going exclusively for “gold”. But he didn't succeed. Now the athlete’s main goal is to win a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
