President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach is very pleased to see athletes from Russia at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Russian skier Anna Nechaevskaya told reporters about the joy of the IOC head. The athlete attended a meeting with T. Bach, which he held with Olympians from Russia. “He said that he was glad to see us here, glad that we were taking part in the Olympics,” TASS quotes A. Nechaevskaya. “It seemed to me that he was sincere in his words, I would like to believe it.”
“I want to thank you all for being here. “I really appreciate the opportunity to communicate with you directly and listen to your thoughts and concerns,” said T. Bach. - I know that now you are in a difficult position for many reasons. But I want you to know that we take this fact into account when we make our decisions,” Vesti quotes him as saying.
At a meeting with Russian Olympians, the head of the IOC spoke about the reasons for the exclusion of most athletes from our country from the Olympics. “Bach told us that there were special people who checked everything, for each athlete separately,” Russian bobsledder Maxim Andrianov told TASS. “The IOC had certain doubts about the doping tests of a number of Russian athletes.” According to the Olympian, the meeting took place on the initiative of T. Bach himself: “Apparently, it was important for him to communicate with the athletes and listen to their opinions.”
In turn, skier Anastasia Sedova noted that the essence of the meeting of the head of the IOC with the Olympians from Russia was that the organization nevertheless invited Russians to these Games and did not exclude the entire country in order to “prove, first of all, to other countries that Russia has strong young and “clean” athletes.” “But wouldn’t it be more logical to explain this to those who are suspended?” - radio station Business FM quotes the athlete.
Skier Nikita Kryukov, who was not allowed to participate in the Olympics, said that he did not know why T. Bach held a meeting with Russian athletes. “What did they want to show with this meeting? Don't even know. These explanations do not satisfy me. Well, to what extent they can satisfy us, when we were simply not allowed there, it is not clear for what reasons. How they are trying to say that the commission selected only “clean” athletes against whom there are no complaints. Well, what kind of nonsense is this anyway? They allowed almost all Sochi residents there because of complaints against them. I have a hard time believing this at all. I am categorically against it. And the fact that Bach came to meet them is completely incomprehensible to me. He is playing some kind of double game, apparently,” the radio station reports.
As IOC Communications Director Mark Adams said, “the conversation turned out to be frank, without beating around the bush,” TASS reports. According to a representative of the organization, a special group monitors compliance with the rules, and in the event of problematic issues and complaints that concern team members, “the information reaches the IOC Executive Committee.”
Before the start of the Winter Olympic Games, two IOC commissions selected 169 Russian athletes who were allowed to compete at the Games in Pyeongchang.
Many of the young athletes will earn awards in the future, become champions, and see other countries. But this is precisely where lies the problem that coaches and teachers of educational institutions have been struggling with for decades - how to combine school subjects and training?
Sport has one peculiarity - the unpredictability of results. In addition, the career of a young athlete can end at any time (due to injury, sudden refusal to train, relocation and many other reasons). And what to do then if your studies are neglected, there are no more than three grades in the main subjects, and there is absolutely zero knowledge in your head... Here we come to the main question - in what mode the young athlete should train.
Amateur sports and studies
If a child is involved in amateur sports, then problems with combining school and activities in the section should not arise. Coaches know very well the schedule of school subjects, when the shift ends, and adjust the start of training so that the child can do everything. After school you need to change clothes, have lunch, rest a little, and after that go to training.
If there are overlaps somewhere, then you can easily agree on how to retake a missed subject at school or catch up on the training process. As a rule, teachers at school understand perfectly what sports means for children and meet parents and coaches halfway. Conflicts, of course, happen when a little athlete often skips classes and stops doing homework. In this case, it is necessary to tactfully explain to the student that sports life should not interfere with education.
It is very important not to go to extremes here. If a child missed several new topics at school (this is especially true for middle and high school students), then he may well get C grades. Parents, of course, don't like this. And some prohibit playing sports so that it does not interfere with their studies. This is fundamentally wrong; compromises are necessary. A good education is as important as physical development and healthy lifestyle skills. Social life at school helps you adapt to adult life, at work, and in society. And the love and habit of physical exercise will allow you to maintain health into old age.
Professional sports and studies
Professional sports, the sport of great achievements, are fundamentally different from amateur sports. The workload of professionals, whether they are at least 4 years old or 15 years old, is incomparably higher than that of amateurs. Trainings are built according to a strict schedule, sometimes they take place every day 1-2 times a day, without holidays or weekends. This is especially true for periods before important ones.
Constant travel, training camps, and sports camps force parents of young athletes to make a difficult choice between study and the training process. Out of breath, mothers and fathers, tired of rushing around and taking their child from school to training and back, usually at one point say: “That’s enough!” And here the choice is this: either towards sports, or towards school and education.
No sports
Let's say parents decided that sports take too much time away from education, tired of injuries and eternal absences of the child from home. The choice is made in favor of the school, and the athlete’s professional career is put on hold. What are the pros and cons of this approach?
pros
- Intellectual development will allow you to exist in society in the future with normal self-esteem. Higher education opens roads to many areas of life where the path is closed to students without a “tower.” People who were unable to enter or graduate from a university often have an inferiority complex about this, especially if the husband or wife has a higher education and is in a good position.
- Socialization is the most important point that cannot be ignored. After all, in professional sports, communication takes place, strange as it may sound, in the locker room. This is impossible during training; between training sessions you need to rest and eat. School communication and friendship often develop into long-term relationships, sometimes for life. After school, children go to various events, celebrate birthdays and other holidays together, play and go for walks.
Minuses
- The main thing is that the child’s health suffers. A sedentary lifestyle, imposed already in childhood, further, the child does not receive such important emotions as the joy of victory, happiness from overcoming his weakness.
- Sport teaches you to set goals, achieve them, and plan your day. If a person did not acquire these skills in childhood, then in adulthood it will be difficult to instill a sense of responsibility, to complete things, and not abandon them halfway. In sports, they teach you to achieve goals through “I don’t want” and “I can’t.” Athletes generally don’t know anything like constantly putting things off, because making an achievement right now is the basis of success.
Become a Champion
There is another extreme. Parents decide that their child must definitely become a champion(no matter figure skating, tennis or snowboarding). And then the child is forced to devote almost his entire life to this “idea” of his parents.
Professional sport is a very difficult thing, regardless of its type. It’s good if the child loves this type of activity with all his heart. Whether there is a pros such a radical decision? Of course there is.
- Sports life is, without unnecessary pathos, a school of survival. The child learns to get up early, on a strict schedule, to endure fatigue and even severe pain. In terms of personal development, sport provides the basis for self-respect and good self-esteem for life, and self-confidence helps to survive difficult periods (for example, adolescence).
- The coach and parents should explain to the child that even after the end of an active sports career, you can find something to do related to your favorite sport. There are a lot of sports-related professions that are respected and well paid. For example, it could be a manager, a lawyer. But, note, here again the need for additional education arises.
Minuses There are such biases in favor of professional sports at the expense of secondary schools, and they are quite significant.
- The child’s horizons are limited, all his interests revolve around sports, training camps, competitions, and training. Sports become everything for children. It replaces many of the interactions that a regular school provides.
- Parents must understand that not all children will become champions. The second, “also honorable” place can easily undermine a person’s self-confidence, creating the feeling that all the work was in vain.
- Even if a career ends “on time”, due to age, professional athletes are sometimes overtaken by a “crisis”. And then depression begins, from which many seek a way out in addictions, including alcohol.
It is for these reasons that parents need to think carefully and weigh whether to send their child to a professional section or choose harmonious development, where sports and studies are combined in equal proportions.
What can experts advise parents to help their children develop harmoniously, without “distortions” in one direction or another?
- If you brought your child to the sport and he fell in love with this sport, then it will be difficult to explain to him the need to “expand his horizons” and also study. Therefore, at the very beginning you need to make a conversation with the coach about how sports and studies will be combined. For experienced trainers, these questions are not new, and they know very well how to organize both processes.
- At the same time, you need to meet and talk with the class teacher so that you can create an individual schedule or additional classes after absences.
- It happens that a young athlete loses interest in sports, here you need to carefully monitor and promptly involve a coach and psychologist in the conversation.
- A clear daily routine is simply necessary if you want your child to succeed in everything. Write it down and hang it in a visible place. This increases the responsibility of the little athlete for his activities and, ultimately, for the organization of his life.
It was the help and support of parents that played a major role in the development of many athletes. And parents, together with coaches and teachers, are able to make a child’s life interesting and balanced from a young age.
What do you think? Is it possible to combine sports with studies? Write in the comments, we are interested in your opinion!

Sport is increasingly absorbing our lives, and not a single family has missed such an event as the Olympics. Cheering for our people, feeling proud of our country - this is what every compatriot has to experience with joy. And a healthy lifestyle becomes a national ideology, because it’s so nice to feel healthy, young, full of strength and energy! Going to the gym is often an integral part of the daily routine, and the simplest morning exercise is the key to vigor and good mood. Healthy nutrition, it turns out, can also be varied and suitable for everyone, taking into account individual needs. And you don’t want to sit at home idly on your day off, but having fun with friends in the fresh air is healthy and enjoyable.
But this is something that everyone can do for themselves. Or you can devote your life to sports and serving your native country. Ask yourself a question and goal: “How to become an Olympic champion?” - you need it in childhood. If a person firmly wants to stand on the podium of the Olympic Games, then he must give his all, even though this is a very risky undertaking. But for a person with a goal and a dream, nothing is impossible.
Why do we need victories?
Every victory, even the smallest one, can be a huge step forward for a completely desperate person. And the same small-level victories could soon turn into one big Olympic one. But all these victories require preparation and long study. and the real pride of parents, school, country? This will be discussed later. But why do we need victories? Firstly, to assert yourself. Having achieved his goal, a person already looks at life completely differently. Perhaps to prove to yourself and the whole world that you are worth something, that your hopes are justified, that all your efforts were not in vain. And so the champion, in spite of all the envious people and to the delight of his friends, listens to the anthem of his native country. And, of course, big sport means money, privileges, fame, travel, lots of new friends and experiences.
Mom, I will be a champion!
Many parents don't even ask themselves or others how to raise an Olympic champion. But this is exactly what needs to be taught! First, find out whether your child really wants to devote his life to sports - namely big sports, to devote himself to it without reserve. Who knows, maybe you are raising a new Pushkin or Tchaikovsky? If your health allows it and you have a strong desire, take your child to sports! Not necessarily one that is classified as an Olympic event. After all, knowing how to become a champion is important for a young athlete. This is his personal and very big victory. Do not waste your child’s talent if it has already been determined: for example, a skate lover will not be particularly interested in simultaneous training in boxing, skiing, football, tennis and a marathon, although comprehensive training is extremely important. Explain that luck may not always accompany an athlete, and they only learn from mistakes and defeats. Teach your child not to give in to difficulties and to endure trials with courage, as well as to despise danger. Although some coaches discourage parents from even dreaming of having champion children - they say, there is no chance. But you always need to strive for the best - this helps you live.
How to become an Olympic champion
If you have decided on your choice of sport and know that you are raising a champion, go straight to a sports school. In this case, you need to choose a suitable coach: after all, in an ideal union it is much easier to achieve results than when the coach and student do not understand each other. A coach in sports is the most important one, so it is strictly necessary to obey him unquestioningly and carry out all instructions and tasks! You need to train constantly. Yes, you may have to sacrifice hours of rest in front of the monitor, sleep, food, personal life or friends - but none of this can replace the joy of victory. The more often you challenge yourself, the better, because in competition a person improves and reveals himself. And then the child who wondered: “How to become an Olympic champion?” - finds out what championship tastes like. And, of course, proper sleep and nutrition are also an important part of victory.
If they spit in your back, you are ahead
Athletes often make enemies precisely because of their success. I ran in less time, jumped ten centimeters further, performed a new element flawlessly... Most often this happens in women's teams. How to fight enemies? You cannot console yourself simply by the fact that you are an object of envy, although this also happens. The best thing to do is to simply separate yourself from the enemy, to be truly indifferent. And in sports, war often breaks out - that’s how people are made. Just transfer it as something that elevates you and does not kill you, which means it makes you stronger!
Secrets of our champions
To find out how to become an Olympic champion, you need to familiarize yourself with the Olympic principles and accept them - otherwise nothing will work, and you will try not for the sake of an idea, but for the sake of fame or some other goal, which, however, also cannot be condemned. Many champions talk about their secrets to victory. For example, get yourself a winning gesture, a song that inspires you, or a talisman - at least some sign that would help you win. Read interviews with athletes who have reached the pinnacle of their careers. Set yourself up for the best, although be prepared for anything. And also - put maximum emotions into what you do, aimed at your opponent, the ball, racket, stick, yourself... Emotions are the driving force of real champions.

“The quality of education as a component of an athlete’s success.”
Completed by: Antipova Margarita Vladimirovna.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for the whole day.
Teach him to fish and you will feed him for life.”
Lao Tzu.
Olympic athletes have always been a source of pride and the face of entire states. The younger generation looks up to them and is entrusted with great responsibility. Athletes also participate in world and European championships, sports competitions and many others. For a comfortable stay in one or another part of the world, knowledge of foreign languages and culture of a given country and their laws is necessary. Also, do not forget that an athlete must know the culture and history of his country. In this regard, the athlete needs to receive a quality education.
But this is all in the future, and for now the students of the Olympic Reserve School No. 1 are just beginning this path. My main task, as a teacher, is to train young athletes as easily and as quickly as possible. Give them a thorough knowledge of the subject and how it will be useful to them in life. It would seem that mathematics and sports are very far from each other, but now in the 21st century, victory is sometimes achieved with a difference of hundredths of a second. Knowing the results of their opponents helps athletes try to improve their performance. The subject of mathematics will help you correctly calculate your chances of winning and the algorithm for achieving these goals. Also, our athletes often “drive weight”; they need to make correct calculations on the number of calories they consumed during the day and how much they spent during training. Only a correctly calculated and applied training plan does not harm their health and allows them to achieve significant athletic results. As you understand, it all comes down to numbers and algebraic algorithms. Without this knowledge, an athlete left alone for a certain period of time will not be able to calmly and independently control his training process.
As you know, the life of an athlete, unfortunately, is not long and sooner or later he has to leave the sport with age or, sadly, due to injuries. And what does he do now, what to do with that huge period of time that is formed if you remove sports from the life of an athlete. In order for an athlete to realize himself not only in sports, but also in life, he needs comprehensive development and quality education. It is important for a young athlete to know that he will be able to realize himself not only in sports, but also in other areas of activity. Many successful athletes open their own schools, defend the interests of athletes in the State Duma, help save lives by realizing their abilities in the ranks of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and, of course, master coaching. All these professions today require higher education and sometimes even more than one.
Student athletes do not have any privileges and enter higher education institutions on a general basis. To do this, you need to pass exams not only in general subjects such as Russian language and mathematics, but also additional exams, for example: history, social studies or biology. It is quite difficult for students to combine academic and training activities. But I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons since elementary school, solving problems in statistics and probability theory with them, explaining to them where this or that problem can be useful in life. I clearly explain to them problems about calculating interest in a bank, a mortgage, and about winning the lottery. I try to solve mathematical problems related to various subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology and history. The ability to solve such problems develops resourcefulness and ingenuity. I also try to teach students to express their thoughts competently and coherently. Be able to clearly and competently answer questions posed in a task.
Relatively recently, at different periods of study, students entered the school who showed good results in competitions, but when answering at the board, they both called the unit “odnerka.” The students did not notice anything contradictory in this, but as soon as I gave the example that if they were interviewed after winning international competitions by foreign journalists and they answered that “one” place was a source of pride for them, they would not be able to translate, the students thought.
I believe that an educated person is a strong person who can realize himself in various fields of activity and easily move from one type of activity to another. Society is developing. New technologies and sports are emerging that combine mental and physical activity (such as chessboxing). If a person is educated, he is strong as a person. This means he is strong in spirit and capable of winning.

What does a sports manager do?
Ordinary people sometimes confuse the concepts of “manager” and “agent”. If, for example, we talk about football, then a personal agent “places” athletes, that is, provides a lucrative contract and makes money on the transfer of athletes from one club to another. A sports manager has a broader scope of activity. He may work for a professional or amateur sports organization or engage in entrepreneurial activities, for example, investing in the development of private schools or tournaments, in the search and professional development of talented athletes who then compete for the title. That is, a sports manager is a person who helps any sports organization earn money, while receiving bonuses for good work, or someone who invests money in sports and builds a business on it.
In Russia, the specificity is that a sports manager helps a club become attractive to any audience. He not only sells the athlete’s rights and achieves an adequate salary, but also contributes to the development of the sports organization as a whole. This could be a sponsorship manager, a marketing manager, a match manager, a financial manager, or a football academy manager who “raises” athletes and then sells them to larger clubs. In any case, this is a person who creates income opportunities.
Not every manager is athletic
You can obtain the profession of a sports manager in specialized educational institutions, where, in addition to basic knowledge, sports specifics are also taken into account. But it happens that a person with a legal, financial, sociological, marketing education or education in the field of classical management comes to sports if he is interested in it or already has experience in this field. Such people become sports managers who purposefully come to study at specialized programs.
At MIRBIS there are programs of the “International School of Sports Management”, where experts and teachers representing the world's leading sports markets offer very high-quality, practice-oriented knowledge. But they need to be adapted to the realities of the Russian market. Usually in such programs more attention is paid to the business course, that is, the management and entrepreneurial component. But they also talk about such narrow areas as marketing, sponsorship, events, commercial activities of football academies, as well as entrepreneurship in sports. Students learn to build their own business.
Profession for sports fans
The advantage of being a sports manager is that the beginning of a career is usually smooth - you can start growing by working in a team of a small club. In addition, this is an ideal profession for true sports fans. Often those who come to work are the ones who play, who are fans, and who follow the results of matches. This is how your favorite thing becomes a profession, which means that work brings pleasure. I myself have no managerial, economic or marketing education, but my passion for sports brought me here, and I have been working successfully for 14 years. Being “in the field”, you feel the energy of the stands, see the drive on the court, and every day of work brings more and more positive emotions. This is probably one of the most emotional professions, and it can only be compared with show business.
Lack of work is the main disadvantage
When it comes to clubs and federations, the Russian sports industry is poorly structured, and graduates of sports universities can waste time trying to get a job. We have few sports organizations that are business-oriented, so all financial costs are covered not by the organization itself, but by the state, big business, regions, etc. On the one hand, this gives rise to unprofessionalism of sports managers. On the other hand, the opportunities for those who really know their business well and want to earn money in their area of work in a sports organization or in their own business are being reduced. As a result, there is no creativity, no innovation, no forward movement. Sports often cannot compete for viewership with other forms of entertainment.
Connections are everything
Connections play a huge role in the career of any manager, and the more sociable a person is, the greater his chances of success. The more acquaintances you have, the more active your own “sales funnel” is. A sports manager must be in constant good shape; communication and networking are his main responsibilities. the manager improves his reputation and gains significance and attractiveness in the eyes of employees. With the help of personal agreements, he is able to reduce costs and attract new income.
As with any sales, a sports manager must also be able to convince his customers that his product is the best. And connections help him move up the career ladder. For example, in the German sports industry, managers constantly communicate with clients at matches, they get to know the spectators, obtaining information for analytical data and for optimizing operations. Through communication, they receive information, for example, that potential clients can purchase sponsorship packages or additional hospitality venues. The main rule is that there should be benefit in any communication.
The ideal sports manager
The main qualities that a sports manager must have are communication skills and assertiveness. Not only sociability is important, but also knowledge of languages - at least English. A sports manager is a public figure, and here you need to be able to communicate with potential clients, with your subordinates, with management and other departments in the sports club. Analytical skills are also important - the ability to prepare information materials for other employees of a sports organization. The profession is very diverse and requires a lot of dedication, round-the-clock brain work, therefore it is very important for a sports manager.
Can an athlete become a manager?
As a rule, an entrepreneur who creates his own sports section hires a head coach or sports director who is responsible specifically for the sports component. At the same time, athletes themselves rarely become good sports managers. I believe that it is very difficult for them to switch to another activity after the end of their sports career, because they devoted most of their time to training and performances. At the same time, many sports organizations are managed by people who do not have the necessary knowledge to manage projects. Because of which these organizations suffer financial disasters. This problem is typical not only for Russia, but also for foreign countries. Only a quarter of former athletes are capable of becoming sports managers.
But retraining is also possible: annual advanced training programs, professional retraining and corporate programs are aimed at people who already have a basic education. Therefore, for a successful career as a manager, a former athlete must first obtain a classical higher education not related to sports.
Sports manager is part of a big team
In team sports clubs there is a head coach, a coaching staff, as well as a selection department and a sports director who search for and attract players. The club also has a staff that deals with the rehabilitation of players, general physical training, nutrition - this is a self-sufficient structure within the sports organization. The next component of the system is the marketing and commercial structure. The match is sold as a product: tickets, merchandise, food, VIP services, sponsors, etc. In addition, there are administrative personnel who control all this - office managers, lawyers, financiers, security service, etc.
Together, we get a well-coordinated mechanism that generates funds, monetizes the passion of fans, attracts marketers, designers and places advertising.
In professional sports, a team is the basis of a profit-making system, because the better a team plays, the greater the interest of fans in it. Of course, due to various factors, a team cannot win constantly, but it must show development and play with dedication so that the fans can see it. After all, their passion is the main engine of the sports business. The task of a sports manager is to ensure that the fan’s mood does not depend on the result of the match. This requires the friendliness of the staff, an appropriate environment, a show and security measures.
Career in the Russian sports industry
Ideally, a manager’s career should begin with internships, but in our country, in sports organizations, unfortunately, they are carried out quite rarely. For example, in Germany, an internship lasts on average from 3 to 6 months, after which a person enters the first stage of a practical career. He understands what he will actually do. Those who come for internships have a chance to gain a foothold in this organization, and maybe make useful connections. Here it is important to communicate, carry out all instructions, use your imagination and try to analyze the situation and improve it. Of course, this will attract management's attention to the potential manager.
Everyone has a chance to get a good job, at least at the level of satisfying their primary ambitions. It happens that in sports organizations there are no managers; sometimes there is one executive director who does everything at once. Here, a former graduate may be offered to attract commercial partners and work for free to gain experience and interest from the transaction. This path is common, but rather unreliable.
The first stage of professional success is working in a large club, a successful sports organization, which is visible - in such football clubs as Spartak, Zenit, Krasnodar, etc. The further stage of the career is receiving a solid income, that is, attracting large sponsorship companies, contracts. This is work in commercial companies, in agencies, at World Cup stadiums, in organizing committees, for example, in the Russian branch of FIFA, which is currently preparing for the 2018 World Cup. And the peak of a career can be a functioning sports business or systematic earnings and development in commercial sports organization. There is a widespread belief that in our sport, earnings are not an indicator of success. Another thing is the creation and development of a club that has existed for many years. This is already a huge achievement, since our sport is still far from business.
