“Zenit” versus “Rubin” is not an ordinary RFPL match. There was a period relatively recently when these clubs jointly won five championships in a row, and their personal relationships are interesting. “Sokker.ru” recalls the key meetings between St. Petersburg and Kazan.
April 10, 2003. RFPL. "Zenit" - "Rubin" (Petrzhelavs Berdyev) - 1:0
Goal: Shirl 48.
This meeting is special and memorable because it is the first in the elite division. The teams of St. Petersburg and Kazan met in the First Division in the early 90s, but the modern history of the relationship dates back to the April 2003 match, which ended in a minimal victory for Zenit: Radek Shirl scored the only goal from a free kick with the help of a ricochet at the beginning of the second half. The St. Petersburg team also won the away match, and in the final table of that championship, Zenit took second place, and Rubin took third. It was the advantage in head-to-head matches that allowed the Blue-White-Blues to finish higher.
April 7, 2004. RFPL. "Zenit" - "Rubin" (Petrzhelavs Berdyev) - 4:3
Goals: Spivak, 21 (penalty); Shirl, 38; Radimov, 42; Kerzhakov, 85 – Roni, 22; Fedorov, 48; Boyarintsev, 68.
A year passed, and Zenit and Rubin met again at Petrovsky in the match of the 5th round of the Russian Championship. Only this time it turned out much more meaningful! Seven goals, a penalty, two deletions – the winners of the previous championship had a lot of fun. The scenario of the meeting turned out to be exciting: the hosts were leading with a score of 3:1 at the break and were not in a hurry, but the Kazan team found the strength to equalize the score, taking advantage of the holes in the defense and the absence of Vyacheslav Malafeev. Alexander Kerzhakov had to unload his “terrible gun” at the end of the match - the winning blow was a sight for sore eyes!
October 25, 2006. RFPL. "Rubin" - "Zenit" (Berdyevvs Lawyer) - 3:0
Goals: Dominguez, 8, 77 (penalty); Benashur, 69.
In the fourth year of the relationship, the first defeat occurred. This is how Kurban Berdyev met Dick Advocaat in the Russian Championship, who headed Zenit a few months before the October match. The final result, in fact, predetermined Dominguez's early goal: that Rubin very rarely gave away matches in which it was leading. Arshavin, Kerzhakov and Denisov banged their heads against Berdyev's defensive wall, and in the middle of the second half, first the Zenit captain Radimov gave an assist to Benashur, and then Dominguez scored a double, converting a penalty. Football relations have become strained!
September 23, 2007. RFPL. "Rubin" - "Zenit" (Berdyevvs Lawyer) - 1:4
Goals: Petrovich, 82 – Pogrebnyak, 18, 56; Zyryanov, 22; Denisov, 72.
Zenit's revenge took place a year later in the same place and was brutal. During the match, the St. Petersburg team led with a score of 4:0, and only a beautiful prestige goal performed by Petrovich allowed Rubin to break the score. Zenit showed an outstanding performance that season not only in Kazan. Dick Advocaat's team won the Russian championship, and in 2008 the trophy collection was replenished with the UEFA Cup and Super Cup.
August 10, 2008. RFPL. "Rubin" - "Zenit" (Berdyevvs Lawyer) - 4:1
Goals: Bukharov, 9, 72; Rebrov, 13; Kobenko, 86 – Tymoshchuk, 22 (penalty).
The following season, Rubin responded to Zenit symmetrically: they won both in Kazan and St. Petersburg, and also won the championship title. The match, in which Berdyev’s team scored two quick goals, took place a couple of weeks before the battle between the blue-white-blues and Manchester United for the UEFA Super Cup, which ended in favor of the Russian club. That is, “Zenit” was strong then, but “Rubin” in a single match still turned out to be head and shoulders above. The guests, by the way, ended the match in a double minority after the sending off of Puigrenier, whose substitution broke up Zenit’s game when there were still chances for a positive result (Bukharov scored his second goal from under the Frenchman, and then Sebastian received a red card for a foul last hope), and Tymoshchuk.
November 20, 2010. RFPL. "Rubin" - "Zenit" (Berdyevvs Spalletti) - 2:2
Goals: Navas 61; Medvedev, 66 – Fayzulin, 18; Husti, 54.
During Rubin's second championship campaign, both matches between the teams of St. Petersburg and Kazan ended in goalless draws, and in 2010 Luciano Spalletti made Zenit a champion, and the blue-white-blues came to the penultimate round match in the capital of Tatarstan already in this status. And had a blast! Rubin had the advantage in the game, but missed fast goals from Faizulin and Husti in both halves, however, the “five minutes of hatred” with goals from Navas and Medvedev allowed the hosts to level the score. This result could have changed several times before the final whistle, but Arlauskis and Borodin also played spectacular football and refused to concede more than two goals per brother.
September 18, 2011. RFPL. "Rubin" - "Zenit" (Berdyevvs Spalletti) - 2:3
Goals: Natkho, 7 (penalty); Kislyak, 23 – Shirokov, 28; Danni, 50, 68.
For a long time, the most striking matches of this confrontation went to Kazan; note that all the results are imbued with revenge. A major victory is met with defeat, and a glorious comeback will not be left without a symmetrical response. A year earlier, Rubin escaped defeat after the score was 0:2, and now Zenit not only saved itself, but also won, winning back two goals conceded already in the middle of the first half. By the way, it was after winning this action-packed thriller that the St. Petersburg team first took the lead in that championship (CSKA stumbled in Rostov-on-Don) and did not relinquish first place until the end of the season.
July 14, 2012. Russian Super Cup. Zenit - Rubin (Spallettivs Berdyev) - 0:2
Goals: Bocchetti 28; Dyadyun, 38.
A unique case: Zenit and Rubin met on a neutral field in Samara and fought for the trophy, which the winner took after the final whistle. Kurban Berdyev's team wanted to win more, and the Kazan team achieved fair success, scoring two goals into Vyacheslav Malafeev's goal before the break. “Rubin” was not like itself: no “bus”, only fighting in all parts of the field and quickly delivering the ball to the attack line. Kurban Bekievich showed his coaching class, who would have thought that this trophy would be his last in Kazan, and after about a year and a half he would leave his post.
April 6, 2014. RFPL. Zenit - Rubin (Villas-Boasvs Bilyaletdinov) - 6:2
Goals: Hulk, 19, 35 (both from penalties); Rondon, 68, 78, 90; Danny, 75 – Azmun, 64; R. Eremenko, 82 (penalty).
After success in the battle for the Russian Super Cup, Berdyev beat Zenit three more times in a row in the Russian Premier League, but after his departure, Rubin scraped together only one draw in five matches against the blue-white-blues, with four defeats. This fiasco was especially painful when the Kazan team, led by Rinat Bilyaletdinov, conceded six goals at Petrovsky. The first half turned out to be tough and not very spectacular, which did not stop Hulk from converting two penalties, but after the break the audience witnessed six goals. Substitute Salomon Rondon was especially persistent: the Venezuelan scored a hat-trick against his former club, and even gave an assist to Danny.
March 13, 2016. RFPL. Zenit - Rubin (Villas-Boasvs Chaly) - 4:2
Goals: Danny, 5, 67; Dziuba, 41; Hulk, 47 – Devich, 65; Portnyagin, 70.
For Villas-Boas, Rubin turned out to be an easy target, and in the most recent match played, Zenit defeated Kazan convincingly in terms of score, although the guests desperately resisted. The Blue-White-Blues acted in a combinational manner, while “Rubin” relied on counterattacks, which more than once or twice penetrated the host formations. In particular, the guests hit the frame of the goal three times, and Lodygin did an extreme job. However, Zenit itself attacked abundantly and effectively, so the final victory in a bright match was logical.
September 19, 2016. RFPL. Zenit - Rubin (Lucescuvs Gracia)
Today Zenit and Rubin will open a new page in their confrontation, because in the summer both clubs invited new coaches and updated their rosters. Javi Gracia that his team is going to win at Petrovsky, but the St. Petersburg team, who made a wild comeback in the Europa League match, have a similar task. Who will be stronger?

The release of programs for various sports competitions has always been a kind of tradition in our country. Football was no exception. In terms of the number of collectors and collectors, Russians are perhaps second only to the founders of football - the British. Today, on the eve of the meeting between Rubin and Zenit, BUSINESS Online"will tell you about the programs released for the first matches between these teams in the Russian Championship, and at the same time we will remember the vicissitudes of the matches themselves.
RUSTEM KHUZIN WAS SENDED OUT IN THE 20TH MINUTE
Before their debut in the Premier League, Rubin only crossed paths with Zenit once in the national championship. This happened in the first league (the predecessor of the current FNL) in 1993. First, the teams met in St. Petersburg. On June 14, at the Kirov Stadium, which accommodated about 80 thousand spectators, there was an audience that was ridiculous in modern times - 800 spectators. This did not prevent the home team from easily defeating the guests from Kazan - 4:0. Hat-trick in progress Vladimir Kulik, namesake of the current Rubin midfielder, scored another goal Alexey Bobrov, who later defended the colors of Kazan when he worked as a coach in the capital of Tatarstan Pavel Sadyrin.
It is worth noting that Rubin played most of the match with ten men, in the 20th minute they were warned, and a minute later the then young defender was sent off Rustem Khuzin.

(To download a picture, click on it with the mouse)An 8-page program with a scarlet cover was released for the match. It, as was customary in those days, contained a minimum of information about the opponent and the history of Zenit’s meetings with Kazan teams in the national cups. Inside is a 4-page insert with the standings, team lineups and statistics of Zenit players. By the way, the program also contained information about the Druzhba team from Yoshkar-Ola, with which Zenit met three days earlier, on June 11, although the cover only announced the match with Rubin. It can be assumed that the game with “Friendship” had a different cover. A separate page for Zenit fans, with brief information about the cities of Volzhsky and Kamyshin, in which the team from St. Petersburg played the following matches.
IT'S COMING TO A FIGHT

Even then, in the early 90s, a solid support group traveled around the country with Zenit. This was also confirmed in Kazan, when the return match of the 1993 season took place here on September 27. “Rubin” was eager to rehabilitate itself for the disappointing defeat in the first round. Zenit also had the task of winning at all costs, since the St. Petersburg team was fighting with the Tolyatti Lada for first place.

That evening, 3 thousand spectators gathered at the Rubin stadium, which became a record for the 1993 season for Kazan. And the match, as they say, was a success. The players of both teams fought tooth and nail. Rarely did any martial arts go without breaking the rules. At the beginning of the meeting, the Kazan midfielder missed an excellent opportunity to open the scoring Sergey Moiseev, and soon the guests did so. In the 16th minute, after a pass from the flank, Kulik headed the ball into the far corner of the Rubin goal. The Kazan team didn’t give up and were able to even the score. Moiseev almost from the center of the field sent the ball into an empty goal, which the Zenit goalkeeper carelessly left Yuri Okroshidze, who will then also defend the colors of Kazan. At the beginning of the second half the visitors took the lead Alexey Naumov, who scored from a free kick. But Rubin managed to restore the balance again: Sergey Tatarkin completed one of the attacks with a precise shot into the far corner of Okroshidze’s goal.

After this, the Kazan team had more chances to snatch victory, but their execution let them down. Note that Zenit played with ten men throughout the second half, after the midfielder was sent off Sergei Loginov, and the Kazan team received a total of three warnings. At the end of the match, passions heated up to the limit when an episode of violation of the rules against the active Kulik almost ended in a mass brawl between coaches and substitute players of both teams running onto the field. Zenit fans also suffered, as they suffered as a result of a fight that broke out in the stands, and after the game, Rubin players attempted to settle scores with Loginov.

An 8-page program was released for the match. The early 90s were difficult times, and this was reflected in everything. For some matches of the 1993 season, programs were not released at all, but at some games, thanks to the efforts of long-time Rubin fans, the current head of the club's press serviceMaxima Lopukhova And Dmitry Makarov, this gap was closed. The program for the match with Zenit was made on a risograph, a hybrid of a copier and an offset printing machine, and it could be easily duplicated if desired. In order to maintain exclusivity, visiting Zenit fans asked the club’s accounting department to put a stamp on each of them.

April 19, 2003. Zenit - Rubin, 1:0
Czech confrontation
Russian fans, not yet spoiled by the abundance of foreign players, witnessed an unprecedented conflict: Rubin's Czech midfielder Tomas Cizek gave an interview on the eve of the match in which he criticized compatriot Radek Shirl both as a football player and as a performer of set pieces. The Zenit player responded to the offender on the field. In the first half, he was close to scoring twice, but the ball after his shots hit either the post or the crossbar.
Soon after the break, Alexey Igonin earned a free kick about twenty meters from the Kazan goal. Shirl ran up to the scene with such speed, as if he was afraid that someone would get ahead of him. After a strong hit from Radek, the ball hit Cizek (!) and ricocheted off him into the net. It is curious that in the future Tomas regularly played for Rubin, but in the three subsequent matches against Zenit Kurban Berdyev left him in reserve.
April 7, 2004. Zenit - Rubin, 4:3
Baskakov's winning decision
The plot of the match between the winners of the previous championship developed according to the laws of a twisted thriller. In the middle of the first half, an adventurous run by Rubin goalkeeper Sergei Kozko outside the penalty area led to a penalty kick, which was converted by Alexander Spivak. Soon the Kazan team restored the balance through the efforts of the Brazilian Roni. For a quarter of an hour before the break, the ball practically did not leave the visiting half of the field. And again Radek Shirl scored, tearing apart the right flank of Rubin's defense. First he scored himself, and then made an assist to Vladislav Radimov.
After the rest, the nature of the game did not change much, but the Kazan team used the free kicks awarded almost at the center circle extremely well. For some reason, throws towards the goal line caused panic among the Zenit team. First, they allowed Kazan defender Andrei Fedorov to head the ball, and then Konstantin Lobov cut the ball into his own goal. Passions ran high. Milan Viestica and Ebrima Sylla were sent off for mutual rudeness. In the 87th minute, Alexander Kerzhakov shot from thirty meters: the ball hit the crossbar, bounced down almost vertically and flew into the field. Referee Yuri Baskakov, after some hesitation, pointed to the center, and was immediately surrounded by Rubin players, trying to prove that a wrong decision had been made. However, there was a goal, and the referee was proven right by the video recording.
May 20, 2007. Zenit - Rubin, 2:1
Masterpiece from Arshavin
Both teams did not start the season very well, and this match largely determined what both would claim in the future. However, the first half turned out to be extremely inexpressive; dangerous moments arose extremely rarely. The visitors opened the scoring shortly before the break: after a free kick, Brazilian defender Gabriel turned out to be the most efficient. As a result, the Zenit players went to the locker room to the sound of whistles coming from the stands.
After Vladislav Radimov and Alejandro Dominguez entered the field, the blue-white-blues played much more aggressively. It was Chori who became the author of the assist, crossing from the corner directly onto the head of Martin Skrtel. In the 78th minute, Andrei Arshavin received the ball on the right flank and created a small masterpiece: he beat three markers and then calculatedly fired into the far corner. Again there was no need to remove it. In the end, Rubin defender Jean Narde roughly attacked Zenit goalkeeper Kamil Chontofalski and honestly earned a second yellow card. By the way, our team won a strong-willed victory after a break of two and a half years.
April 6, 2014. Zenit - Rubin, 6:2
Unsentimental Rondon
Over the previous year, Salomon Rondon, playing for Rubin, scored winning goals against Zenit twice. Now the forward had to play against his former teammates for the first time. However, the Venezuelan did not make it into the starting lineup. In the first half, Hulk led the way, converting two penalties. It is curious that in the previous 12 meetings between the rivals on the banks of the Neva, the referees awarded only two 11-meter kicks to the Kazan goal, and within 16 minutes their number doubled.
The scoring extravaganza began only in the final half hour, and it was at that moment that Rondon entered the field. Within two minutes, he proved that he did not have any special sentimental feelings for Rubin, essentially killing the intrigue that had revived after Azmun’s goal. Then the center forward scored two more times, becoming the author of a rare, and in some positions unique, hat-trick. In addition, he turned out to be the first football player in the history of matches between Zenit and Rubin, who played in head-to-head meetings for both teams, but more often sent the ball into the Kazan goal.
