People serving in the army divide civilian life into army life. There are a lot of differences in sports standards and requirements for candidates and active military personnel in various branches of the military. Many will be interested in looking at the army requirements for sports training according to various criteria and comparing them with the civilian standards of the GTO. And every man, we think, will be interested to know whether he is sufficiently prepared and seasoned to pass the army physical fitness standards for military personnel in 2019, and you yourself can measure your strength and the right to be a worthy defender of the Fatherland.
Important! Standards may not be accurate
Therefore, it is important to check them with places of service in specialized institutions
Physical fitness standards for army conscripts
In fact, there are no approved requirements for sports standards; first of all, military personnel are selected for the army based on mental and physical health. And in the army you will be taught how to run, do pull-ups and other strength exercises during exercises.

These standards are used when applicants take exams for entry into higher military institutions in Russia, and are also not very different, if not completely similar, in countries such as Ukraine and Belarus.
It is worth noting that in the army during military service all conditions have been created for the development of physical endurance. In the morning every day there are exercises and in the afternoon classes on general physical training according to the army training program. In many of the dormitories of the barracks, there are sports corners with exercise machines and sports equipment: dumbbells, weights, barbells, horizontal bars, where each serviceman of the unit can additionally exercise in his free time.
The main task of physical training is to ensure maximum readiness to perform combat missions in full uniform and weapons, which sometimes weigh quite a bit. For this purpose, training marches are carried out in various conditions over rough terrain. Every soldier must control his body and mind to successfully complete a combat mission.
You need to understand that conscripts into the Russian army will not be required to meet any special standards and will be happy to have any physical form. Therefore, we want to consider the standards primarily for those who serve under contract, as well as for various Russian special services.
Standards for military personnel under contract for 2019
When applying for a contract, the candidate must fulfill any three standards from the categories below: strength, speed and endurance according to the minimum requirements. These standards are usually met in sports uniform and within one day. The choice of 3 standards is made by citizens independently. If at least one of the standards is not met, then the test is not counted. The physical fitness of candidates is checked by specialists from relevant departments. All results of checking standards must be communicated to candidates upon verification.

Complete table of points for physical training of military personnel
Verification of standards for all military personnel is carried out based on age group calculations, which are given below. Everyone’s task is to score a certain total score for the final assessment of the physical readiness test.
It would seem that in our age of advanced technology, when the conduct of combat operations has smoothly moved from direct contact of opponents to the control of remote devices of varying range and destructive power, it is not advisable to train soldiers for hand-to-hand combat. But the realities of military life say otherwise. Even the most reliable equipment can fail or be disabled by the enemy, and in this case the soldier must be able, if not to defend himself, then at least for a long time to move across the most varied terrain to new frontiers. And this almost always requires good physical shape.
It is important to note that the training of military personnel can be divided into several main parts:
- training of conscript soldiers;
- training of contract military personnel;
- physical activity on warrant officers and midshipmen;
- training of university students;
- physical activity for service personnel.
Each of the listed blocks has its own characteristics and is focused on certain gender and age groups. In any case, current and future soldiers, as well as citizens who voluntarily linked their lives with the army, must be able to pass minimum physical fitness standards. Among them are the following exercises:
- for agility and speed;
- strength exercises for arms and legs;
- ability to run quickly for time over short and long distances;
- be hardy;
- can swim;
- a minimum set of hand-to-hand combat techniques;
- coherence of work in teams of different sizes (group exercises).
It should be noted that before passing the standards, military personnel have the opportunity to prepare and improve their individual performance. This is facilitated by daily sports activities, allotted time for self-training, and a variety of sports equipment and devices that are present in almost every military unit. Physical training classes in army units are included in the mandatory general military training of military personnel, and passing the standards is an intermediate stage at each level of such training. And if a soldier, warrant officer or officer does not miss the established schedule of classes, monitors his physical fitness, and plays sports in his spare time, it will not be difficult for them to pass the standards determined by regulatory documents. Moreover, they are divided taking into account age categories, gender characteristics, and the degree of possible physical activity for a particular military unit.
You need to understand that the mandatory minimum for any soldier called to serve the Motherland is long and short distance running, strength exercises (a minimum amount of pull-ups on the horizontal bar and push-ups on the uneven bars), the ability to swim and protect yourself in hand-to-hand combat. All this is also accompanied by the development of endurance, the ability to act coherently as part of a squad, platoon, company, battalion. After all, all military service is built on discipline, the ability of each participant not only to complete the assigned task, but also, if necessary, to support and help a comrade who is in trouble. It is important to note that the performance of passing the standards within the unit is assessed based on the last participant. Therefore, in order to invest in the standard, it is very important to act in a coordinated manner, monitor the condition of each member of a particular unit, and, if necessary, even help him cope with difficulties and overcome obstacles.
September 28. Currently, more than 500 officers of the Western Federal District are being examined in physical fitness. For several years now, all military leaders, right down to generals, have been subject to such verification.
Gone are the days when generals could sit quietly in their office, shaking their flabby muscles and big bellies. The new realities are as follows: those military personnel who have forgotten about sports (generals and admirals are no exception) face punishment - up to and including dismissal. The physical training of officers has gone from being nominally mandatory to being actually mandatory and is on a par with professional training.
Until recently, the professional qualities of the military were assessed according to the traditional scale. The young officer pulled himself up 14 times – “A”, not once – “Fail”.
However, this system was considered too simplified by the Ministry of Defense, and a 100-point system was introduced. The overall physical training score now consists of points received for 4–5 exercises in individual types of physical training.
For example, if we talk about power elements, these are:
- flexion-extension of the body;
- flexion-extension of the arms while lying down;
- pull-up;
- rise by revolution.
If we talk about running, this is:
- distance 60 meters;
- distance 100 meters;
- shuttle sprint;
- cross-country for 1 and 3 kilometers;
- forced marches;
- swimming, etc.
According to the current assessment methodology, in order to receive an “excellent” mark, a serviceman must score from 60 to 100 points. For the mark “good” - at least 60 points, for “satisfactory” - at least 35 points. When calculating the result, the age of the serviceman is taken into account.
In practice, in order to pass physical training, for example, a 48-year-old colonel needs to earn at least 16 points on each exercise. That is, on the bar, perform at least 3 pull-ups or 5 inversions, 20 push-ups and run 1 kilometer in 3.5 minutes.
In total, the Ministry of Defense has defined more than 60 different exercises; military personnel have the right to choose exercises. For example, if he is an excellent runner, but is weak in pulling himself up on the crossbar, then he can easily compensate for the lack of “strength” points on a cinder track or, for example, in hand-to-hand combat, or cross-country skiing, or a forced march. The main thing is that the serviceman exceeds the lower bar of the rating scale.
The Armed Forces also practice complex exercises - simultaneously testing endurance, accuracy and strength - for each specialty, simulating the conditions that a soldier might encounter in real combat. The purpose of this work is to prepare soldiers and officers to meet combat training standards.
According to the order of the Ministry of Defense, military personnel who receive a “failure” during a physical fitness test are punished with a ruble. They are given 6 months to improve their athletic training. If, after the allotted time, a serviceman does not pass the standard, at least with a “C,” then he may be dismissed from the army with the wording “failure to comply with the terms of the contract.”
But officers who received “excellent” in physical training receive a monthly increase for 1 year - up to 100% of their official salary.
It should be noted that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu himself and his deputies Dmitry Bulgakov, Valery Gerasimov, Yuri Sadovenko and other assistants to the head of the military department show an example of excellent physical fitness to their subordinates. They are energetic, fit and play sports. For example, Shoigu plays hockey.
There is no way you can shake your belly next to such officers. Whether the general wants it or not, he will have to lose weight.
The Russian Army is provided with the latest equipment, which does not require extensive strength training to use; however, the physical training of employees remains an indispensable condition for service in the ranks of the Armed Forces. Indicators of human endurance are used in the selection of military personnel, including the practice of performing physical training tasks.
- contract workers;
- conscript service;
- specialized structures;
- students of higher educational institutions;
- officers and warrant officers.
Considering that today a large number of female representatives serve in the ranks of the Russian army, not only at work at headquarters or dealing with technical issues, but also in combat units, standards for assessing physical endurance are provided for them, based on their age group. By the way, for applicants to specialized universities, it is also provided for the implementation of established workloads.
Requirements for employees undergoing military service
Based on the results of the physical fitness assessment, soldiers are assigned to combat missions. They are given 2 weeks to demonstrate the following indicators:
- do pull-ups on the bar at least 10 times;
- do push-ups up to 45 times;
- 100m run in 15 seconds;
- 3 km cross-country in 14 minutes.
Such standards have also been established for military personnel working under a contract and no older than 30 years of age. The decisive factor should be an endurance assessment carried out in favorable weather conditions. If the weather does not allow this requirement to be met, then the tests are scheduled in a closed building.
When developing military training standards, the general development of today's youth, which is characterized by inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle, was taken into account. They lead to rapid fatigue of the body, so when carrying out testing activities it is necessary to take this into account in order to stop performing tasks in time and prevent a person from becoming seriously ill.
Indicators for military personnel serving under contract
The requirements for employees who have entered into a contract are aimed at a high level of professional and physical training in comparison with conscripts, but at the same time they are divided by age, since during this period the place of work activity becomes the service at the location of the units, and the performance of duties inevitably involves to significant physical costs. For applicants to sign such a contract, standards are provided in the field of psychology, as well as in professional terms, which help to identify the level of suitability of the candidate to perform job duties. Thus, for males under the age of 30, the same standards apply as for conscript soldiers. For those who are over 30 years old, you must complete:
- spin 40 times;
- pull-ups on the horizontal bar at least 8 times;
- running 100 m in 16 seconds, and 3 km in 15 minutes.
However, these indicators are standard and do not apply to all military personnel. There are structures in which the level of physical endurance is much higher. To determine the candidate’s capabilities, his physical fitness is assessed in order to determine where the soldier should be sent for further service. These are the groups:
- Reconnaissance and assault units, air force, special forces.
- Combat supply units of the Russian Armed Forces, radio troops.
- Logistics and defense services, under- and surface departments.
Standards for female military personnel
Employment in contract service is provided for women who have reached the age of 19, but not older than 35. They have their own requirements.
Monitoring of the medical condition during the physical endurance test is carried out by an authorized medical professional, who must be at the test site to measure blood pressure and heart rate.
The intensity of the workout should be determined taking into account the pulse rhythm, and is divided for female employees in the following order:
Pulse rate (beats/min) 1 2 3 4 5 Minimum Up to 125 Up to 120 Up to 115 Up to 110 Up to 105 Average 126-145 121-140 116-135 110-130 106-125 High 146-170 141-165 136-155 131-145 126-135 Maximum More than 171 More than 166 More than 156 More than 146 More than 136 Testing a soldier's endurance
The results of the tests are subject to evaluation in points, which are awarded on the basis of the order of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation dated April 21, 2009 No. 200, Appendix 15, which contains a table of points for performing physical training exercises for military women.
The level of endurance of employees is assessed when performing various complex tasks. They include tasks for endurance, speed, agility and other applied professional skills. Their number and complete list are contained in the training standards. When performing tasks, only those identified in the list are assigned, taking into account the job duties performed and the location where they are carried out.
For example, newly employed people cover various running distances, do pull-ups and swim. The results shown are assessed on the basis of a scoring table on a scale of 100 units. An “excellent” rating is given when tasks are completed with 75 points and above, “good” - from 60, and “satisfactory” - from 35.
If the fulfilled standards cannot be measured in numerical terms, then the assessment can be carried out on other grounds:
- “excellent” - the task was completed in accordance with its description, without errors, easily and with confidence;
- “good” - when performing the exercise, all requirements were met, but minor mistakes were made (insufficient frequency of movements, small flexion of the limbs, performing elements using force with a small swing or booster, touching the apparatus without losing tempo);
- “satisfactory” - the task was carried out uncertainly with significant shortcomings, but in accordance with the description;
- “unsatisfactory” - failure to fulfill indicators or their distortion.
Based on the results of annual inspections, military personnel are recertified and their rotation to other duty stations is possible.
Features of training for female military personnel
The physiological characteristics of the body of female employees make it possible to set minimum loads during a certain period that they must perform. Basically, physical training for women is of a general strengthening and comprehensive nature, and is not associated with training certain muscle groups or developing skills for conducting combat operations in direct contact with enemy units.
For this reason, programs for maintaining this category of military in excellent physical shape are drawn up, taking into account the specifics of the unit and the type of military formation in which it serves. At the same time, the strength load complex includes tasks from the guidelines for physical training, as well as individual exercises involving jumping rope and long jumps, squats and various acrobatic movements.
Physical physical fitness chart for female military personnel
The volume of loads is distributed by age, and takes into account the physiological characteristics of this category of employees.
Exercises Age categories 1 2 3 4 5 Swimming in km 2,4 2,1 1,8 1,5 1,2 Ski marathon in km 28 25 22 18 15 Cross in km 22 20 18 16 14 Body tilt forward from a lying position, number of times 500 400 300 200 100 The efforts directed by the leadership of the RF Armed Forces to maintain the physical training of their employees make it possible to maintain a high degree of combat effectiveness and strength endurance of personnel. Thanks to this, today the Russian army forms a formidable competitor to the strongest armed forces in the world and ensures a balance of power in the face of the threat of attack by other states.
Every recruit or contract soldier joining the ranks of the Russian army, regardless of age, gender, or conditions of service, must have certain physical skills. Its main goal is to improve the quality of the personnel’s ability to perform any combat missions assigned to them. But physical fitness standards for military personnel should differ depending on the gender of the person serving.
Frequency of classes
Preparatory and practical physical training activities are carried out regularly throughout the entire period of service and training for cadets of specialized educational institutions.
At the same time, contract employees, as well as persons undergoing military service, must study at least five hours a week, university students and cadets - at least four hours.
The sports readiness of persons serving in the service is subject to periodic inspection by units, or by physical training chiefs, with mandatory consideration of the results. Passing practical tests is an important stage of any service. During the inspection, the level of combat readiness of everyone in military service is assessed.
The procedure for checking contract soldiers and self-employed workers is enshrined in Order of the Ministry of Defense No. 200. Based on this regulatory legal act, members of the armed forces are checked in 2019 in the following order:
In addition to the listed grounds, verification of the level of sports training is mandatory for persons appointed to higher officer positions.
Differences when passing standards
The level of combat readiness is different for people of different gender and age groups, depending on the conditions of service and the type of troops of the formation. In this regard, the division of standards is as follows:
- applicants to specialized military educational institutions: civilian boys and girls.
- conscripts: those serving for less than six months and those serving for more than six months.
- students of the first second, third and higher years, respectively.
- contract soldiers: by age category;
- women: by age category.
Depending on belonging to one or another of the above groups, a minimum score is set for passing each test.
Testing of sports training for each individual category is carried out in several areas, allowing one to assess the level of various areas of combat readiness.
Standards for conscripts
The physical fitness of conscripted employees is checked in the same basic areas as the assessment of the preparedness of contract soldiers. Army standards include the following exercises:
Type of exercise | |
Force | power lift with inversion on the horizontal bar and pull-up. |
Speed data | overcoming short distances, shuttle running. |
Stamina level | overcoming long distances, or skiing (five kilometers), |
Dexterity | vault jump over a projectile with legs bent and placed apart, techniques and tactics of hand-to-hand combat. |
Army skills | hand-to-hand combat techniques, forced march with full equipment, a distance of five kilometers, a strength complex involving overcoming an obstacle course. |
PHYS standards for boys
Physical fitness standards for girls
Standards for contract workers
Physical physical fitness standards for male military personnel
Assessment of the sports readiness of a person undergoing contract service, depending on the age group, includes performing the following types of mandatory exercises:
Sports training category | Type of exercise |
Force | horizontal bar: pull-up, lift with inversion, hanging leg raise, bench press in a lying position, parallel bars: flexion and extension movements of the arms in support, snatch and push of the weight. |
Speed data | overcoming short distances, swimming and shuttle running. |
Endurance | overcoming long distances (from four hundred meters to five kilometers), gong skiing (five kilometers) and swimming five hundred meters, a set of strength exercises |
Dexterity | jumping over a projectile, and for certain age categories - hand-to-hand combat techniques without the use of weapons and with them. |
Army skills | strength exercises involving movement along an obstacle course, forced marches with full gear, projectile throwing and long jumps. |
The specifics of contract service require a military man to expend a lot of mental and physical effort. Therefore, passing qualification certifications takes place at a higher level.
Persons who have passed the highest level of physical training, namely those who have scored 75 points or more, have the right to count on a bonus to the basic salary.
Standards for women
When drawing up programs to test the physical fitness of this category of military personnel, the characteristics of the female body were taken into account. Therefore, they differ from standard army indicators and standards intended for male contract soldiers.
Physical fitness standards for female military personnel
A set of testing exercises for women includes:
Age restrictions
Evaluation of results
During the test, each completed exercise is assessed separately. The Ministry of Defense has introduced a 100-point system. In total, the exam test usually contains 4-5 exercises. The overall result of passing the certification commission is assessed as in a university with a grade from “unsatisfactory” to “excellent”, based on the indicators for each exercise.
At the same time, any standard is passed the first time, and if you receive a low grade, there is no possibility of retaking it for a higher score.
And if an unsatisfactory assessment does not in any way affect the conscript’s further service, then for a contract soldier, failure of the exam, i.e., scoring less than 35 points, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Defense, is reflected in the cash bonus. They are given six months to train and retake sports standards. In the event of another failure, such a situation could have dire consequences, including termination of the service contract.
As for applicants who have not yet signed a contract, failure to pass the physical fitness standards for military personnel deprives them of the opportunity to serve under a contract. The same applies to applicants entering military institutions to study.
Based on the results of annual checks of the degree of combat readiness, regardless of gender, age and rank, military personnel are recertified. On the basis of which, it is possible to rotate individual personnel to other places for service.

Today, everyone who has served in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has the right to continue serving in the army by concluding a contract with the state. But in order to conclude a contract and begin training, it is necessary to pass several tests and meet the necessary physical standards for contract soldiers, since contract service in the army presupposes a greater level of physical training for professionals compared to conscripts.
The future contract soldier must first appear at his military registration and enlistment office or special selection point with the necessary package of documents. This is followed by an interview with specialists and tests to identify the candidate’s abilities and potential. Based on the test results and the conclusions they receive, the applicant will be recommended the most suitable military specialty and place of service for you. Of course, this is all provided that he passes the selection according to all the above parameters. Then the order of passing various commissions is determined for him, followed by passing the standards.
Important! By the way, military personnel pass standards in accordance with the approved standards and norms of the NFP 2009. It is also necessary to have appropriate health within the framework of group A (fit for service) or group B (fit with minor restrictions).
What is physical training in the army?
Physical fitness standards in the army for contract soldiers regulated by a special provision “Manual on physical training in the RF Armed Forces”, approved by order of the Minister of Defense A. Serdyukov No. 200 dated April 21, 2009. The minister considers physical training to be the basis of a soldier's combat readiness, and by increasing it, you will certainly increase the combat effectiveness of the entire army.
Important! The main task of physical training is to qualitatively change the combat readiness of personnel to implement the most difficult tasks set by the command.
Physical fitness requirements for applicants vary significantly in workload, in accordance with the profession that has been chosen.
There are three main groups:
- for candidates for service in the Airborne Forces, Airborne Forces, reconnaissance, special forces and marines;
- for personnel of combat units, support, military management, students of military schools;
- for workers of logistics, medical and maintenance services of the fleet, military bands, employees of management units, cadets of training centers.
Each of these groups has its own gender characteristics and focuses on certain age categories.
A candidate for contract service must fulfill three basic standards with minimum requirements:
- strength (pull-ups, kettlebell pushes, push-ups);
- speed (60 m sprint, 100 m sprint, shuttle run);
- endurance (1 km run, 3 km run, swimming and cross-country skiing).
Citizens have the right to choose standards independently. Failure to comply with at least one of the three standards is excluded, and the pass will not be counted. The physical fitness of candidates is checked by specialists from the relevant department. The results of passing the standards by applicants must be recorded after the fact in a specially created card.
The standards must be met during a separate day, while in sports uniform.The standards are based on the gender and age of the candidates:
- Group 1 – up to 25 years;
- Group 2 – up to 30 years;
- Group 3 – up to 35 years; then, at intervals of five years, the serial number of the group increases.
- the last group, 8th, corresponds to ages over 55 years.
Everyone must receive the required passing total score based on the results of testing the physical readiness of a future military professional.
A fighter is assessed as follows:
- bad" (0-35);
- “good” (36-60);
- “excellent” (61-100).
What physical fitness standards must a contract worker comply with?
When the rapid development of high technologies made it possible to use the most modern weapons, such as long-range unmanned vehicles and enormous destructive power, and direct fire contact with the enemy began to become a thing of history, it would seem there was no need to study hand-to-hand combat. However, the reality is completely different. The most modern and reliable equipment can be destroyed by the enemy or fail, then the fighter must be prepared for long marches over the most rugged terrain to occupy new positions. In most cases, such readiness can be ensured by good physical training.
Therefore, the standards for contract workers look like this:
- male candidate under 30 years old: push-ups – 45 times; pull-ups – 10 times; sprint 60 m in 9.8 seconds; 100 m sprint in 15.1 seconds; shuttle run 10x10 in 28.5 seconds. Endurance test: 3 km marathon - 14.4 min; 1 km – 4.2 min; skiing 5 km – 28 min.;
- male candidate over 30 years old: push-ups – 40 times; pull-ups – 8 times; sprint 60 m in 10 seconds; 100 m sprint in 15.8 seconds; shuttle run 10x10 in 29.5 seconds. Endurance test: 3 km marathon - 15.15 minutes; 1 km – 4.45 min.; skiing 5 km – 29 min.;
- female candidate under 25 years old: push-ups – 12 times; press (torso bends) – 25 times; 60 m sprint – in 12.9 seconds; 100 m sprint in 19.5 seconds; shuttle run 10x10 in 38 seconds. Endurance test: 1 km marathon – 5.2 min.;
- female candidate over 25 years old: push-ups – 10 times; press (torso bends) – 20 times; 60 m sprint – in 13.9 seconds; 100 m sprint in 20.5 seconds; shuttle run 10x10 in 38 seconds. Endurance test: 1 km marathon – 5.45 min.
Contract soldiers who are periodically certified and who do not score the required points receive five months for rehabilitation before the question of dismissal from the armed forces arises.
Interesting! To encourage those who have passed the standards with high scores, a salary increase is provided (for current contract soldiers).
Important! In addition to the requirements for the candidate, there are also a number of conditions that must be met to ensure successful passing of the physical exam:
- clothing: several options are allowed, but mainly sports uniforms;
- climatic conditions: the ambient temperature at the time of passing the standards must be between -15 and +35 degrees Celsius. Going beyond the limits here is strictly prohibited, otherwise irreparable harm to health may be caused.
