Trampolineing became an Olympic sport as recently as 2000. For a long time, the trampoline was not perceived as a sports equipment. It was used as an aid to other training, and many trainers noted the positive psychological boost that jumping training provides. But today the individual championship in trampoline occupies a worthy place in the program of the Summer Olympic Games.
Participants in trampolining games
The Rio Olympics will delight fans with individual jumping competitions, in which both men and women will participate. Two sets of awards will be raffled off.
A total of 32 athletes will come to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, an equal number of men and women, 16 each. Each country can represent a maximum of four athletes, of which two are men and two are women.
Of all the countries participating in the Olympics, only China will take part in trampolining in 2016. Three participants from Russia were selected: two men and one woman.
The qualifying tournament for the Summer Olympics for trampolining was held in two stages. Some of the places were given to finalists at the 2015 World Jumping Championships, and some were up for grabs in the Olympic test events in April. The remaining places were distributed by the Olympic Commission.
The mandatory presence of representatives from no less than four continents in the discipline at the Summer Olympic Games was taken into account. One seat was reserved for Brazil as host.
Jumping licenses that are issued to countries are not personal. National Olympic Committees themselves decide who to send to the Olympics.
Trampoline competition calendar
Schedule:
- 12th of August. Women's individual championship: competition qualification, Final.
- August 13. Men's individual championship: qualification, competition finals.
Each jump is an exercise with at least ten elements. Athletes perform a series of continuous jumps, performing spins, pirouettes and other tricks. To perform them, high coordination and training of the whole body is required.
The judges evaluate the technique and aesthetic characteristics of the performance of stunts.
At the preliminary stage, athletes demonstrate mastery of the compulsory program, then they perform voluntary exercises, which are assessed based on the difficulty of the elements and the quality of execution. In the semi-finals and finals, only voluntary exercises are performed.
Trampoline jumping is widely used to improve coordination for astronauts. Exercises performed on this apparatus help prepare the body for weightlessness. Jumping does not always act as a separate sport.
A trampoline is a projectile consisting of a springy mesh and a frame on which it is stretched. Mats are placed along the edges of the trampoline, which can reduce the impact force. Some athletes perform in special shoes, others in socks. One exercise consists of ten elements, which can be a variety of somersaults, spins, pirouettes and other tricks. In the free portion, athletes usually perform a more difficult program in order to receive more points.
The Russians were left without medals in the men's individual tournament, although for the Games they claimed to be in the top three

from the Olympic Park
Russian fans associate trampolining primarily with Alexander Moskalenko And Irina Karavaeva, who at the 2000 Games in Sydney became the first champions in the Olympic history of this sport. Much water has passed under the bridge since then, but there are still strong jumpers in our country. On Friday, in the women's competition, she cherished medal ambitions Yana Pavlova, but in the end she was unable to break into the top eight, remaining in a thankless 9th place. A day later, two of her colleagues joined the fight - Dmitry Ushakov And Andrey Yudin.
A professional trampoline has a very conditional resemblance to a popular attraction, which everyone can try their hand at at any Central Park of Culture and Culture. In addition to coordination, which seems to be a given for this sport, several more qualities are required. First of all, he has an excellent eye. Although there is a large cross in the center of the trampoline, which makes it easier for the athlete to orientate himself, this is not enough. They say that a good jumper must have several pairs of eyes at once, including those on the back of his head, in order to accurately determine his location in space.
Next is a powerful, inflated back. The specificity of the trampoline is that the athlete must enter each element in a strictly vertical position. Only then will the tightly stretched net throw you straight up. It is the back that acts as a kind of rudder with which the athlete controls his center of gravity and, accordingly, the direction of flight. As soon as you change the landing angle even a little, there is immediately a threat of flying into the stands somewhere. To prevent such trouble, the athlete must be insured by a coach with a small mat. If suddenly something goes wrong, he immediately throws his life preserver at the feet of his ward, thus helping to reduce the speed.
Finally - strong legs and well-developed “breathing”. The entire performance, consisting of ten acrobatic elements of varying difficulty, lasts no more than 20 seconds. But during this time, the legs literally become stiff, and the breath is taken away. It’s not even worth talking about composure and courage. For a trampoline, in which athletes fly 7-8 meters into the air, this is a common place.
The nominal leader of the Russian team was considered Ushakov. Four years ago, he thundered throughout the planet, sensationally winning a silver award at the London Olympics. However, since then the 27-year-old athlete from Yeisk has not achieved great achievements. In individual competitions at the World Championships, he was never able to rise above fifth place, mainly collecting medals in team performances. 20-year-old Tolyatti resident Yudin was in the shadow of a more experienced comrade. However, the initiates claimed: this guy is ready to storm the summit. Last year, for the first time, he declared himself loudly, taking third place at the world championship in Odense, Denmark. And this season he became one of the leaders of the World Cup, winning four stages at once.
Both Russians overcame the qualification barrier without any problems. Ushakov in two attempts he scored 109.180 points and took fourth place, Yudin ranked behind him with 108.725 points. The preliminary tournament was won by the current world champion Chinese Gao- 112.535 points.
Alas, as soon as the main competition began, trouble occurred. Yudin already after his second element he landed on the very edge of the net, literally walking with his back on the safety mats. Naturally, the next take-off catapulted him beyond the jumping zone - and this was the end of the fight for medals for our athlete. Ushakov came out onto the platform immediately after a comrade’s unsuccessful performance: one could imagine how much effort it took for him to maintain composure. Dmitry performed well, but his score of 59.525 points allowed him to take only 5th place. A Belarusian sensationally won the gold medal Vladislav Goncharov, who has never stood on the highest step of the podium before. He scored 61.745 points and was ahead of all his rivals.

Belarusian Vladislav Goncharov won gold at the 2016 Olympics in trampolining.
In the final, Vladislav Goncharov received a score of 61.745 points and was ahead of two Chinese - Don Don (60.535) and Gao Lei (60.175).
This is the first gold medal for the Belarusian Olympic team at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, for the first time in history, Belarusians managed to win an Olympic medal in trampolining. This sport was included in the program of the Games in 2000 in Sydney; Belarusians were close to getting on the podium more than once, but they could not get on it before.
20-year-old Vladislav Goncharov is an Olympic debutant, but despite his young age, he was considered one of the favorites of the Games. He broke into the trampolining elite in 2014. Since then, the young talent from Vitebsk has won two awards in the Olympic discipline at the World Championships (bronze at the 2014 World Cup and silver at the 2015 World Cup) and at the European Championships (gold at the 2014 European Championship and 2016 European Championship).
Bookmakers named Goncharov’s main competitors in the fight for Olympic medals as two Chinese: two-time Olympic medalist (bronze 2008 and gold 2012), 27-year-old Don Don, and 24-year-old 2015 world champion Gao Lei. At the same time, the bookmakers gave gold to Gao Lei, and bronze to Dong Dong, while the Belarusian was predicted to take silver.
The bookmakers' predictions were justified - it was these three who dominated, and it was not clear who would get what award until the last seconds.
Although there was one alarming moment in qualifying when my heart skipped a beat. Jumping brilliantly in his free program, at the very end, during the landing, Vladislav Goncharov came to the very edge of the net and, perhaps, even slightly touched the mats. For this, the judges lowered the score, but it was still so high (110.090) that it was enough for second place.
The qualification was won by Chinese Gao Lei, who had worked his program impressively (112.535), and third was London Olympic champion Don Don (110.050), who had some shortcomings.
But in the final, the more experienced of the Chinese, Don Don, performed everything almost flawlessly. But Vladislav Goncharov, who came out after him, showed that it was possible to do even better. The Belarusian’s program was slightly inferior in complexity (17.300 versus 17.800), but superior in purity of execution (26.400 versus 25.200) and in the length of time in the air (18.045 seconds versus 17.535). Thus, Vladislav Goncharov secured at least silver.
The last to compete was the bookmakers' favorite, Gao Lei, who offered a mind-boggling difficulty (18,400), but was let down by his execution (23,700). And even the longest flight time (18.075 seconds) could not compensate for this shortcoming. As a result, he moved to the third step of the pedestal.
