This week, the in-person qualifying round for the Gazprom Schoolchildren Olympics starts at Tomsk Polytechnic University. Its winners will receive additional points for admission to TPU and other flagship universities of the company, as well as valuable prizes and the opportunity to undergo an internship at Gazprom. In the field of information and communication technologies (ICT), which is organized by Tomsk Polytechnic University, 395 schoolchildren qualified for the second round of the Olympiad.
The main goal of the Olympiad is to identify gifted schoolchildren focused on engineering and technical specialties, capable of technical creativity and innovative thinking and planning their professional activities in the gas industry.
Total in the Olympics schoolchildren of PJSC Gazprom Over 4,000 children from all over Russia took part.
The Olympiad is held for students in grades 9-11 in five fields - mathematics, physics, chemistry, information and communication technologies and economics, and is divided into two stages. The first, correspondence online tour, took place from December 1 to December 31, 2016. Participants completed tasks prepared for them by the organizing universities on various Internet sites. In the ICT area, more than 800 schoolchildren took part in an Internet game developed on the “Agents of the Future” platform, created at TPU with the support of PJSC Gazprom. Now 395 children who have made it to the second round will have to compete for the opportunity to study at TPU and undergo an internship at Gazprom.
Let us remind you that the tests of the full-time round will be held at the sites of 13 flagship universities of PJSC Gazprom. Its winners and prize-winners from among the graduates of 2017 will be able to receive additional points towards individual achievements when entering universities in the areas in which they passed the qualifying tests for the Olympiad. And the winners and prize-winners from grades 9 and 10 will have the right next year to be admitted to participate in the final stage of the Olympiad, bypassing the qualifying stage in the area in which they distinguished themselves earlier.
The results of the Olympiad will be known in April.
The absolute winners in each subject will be invited to St. Petersburg to be awarded special prizes and gifts from Gazprom.
The full-time round of the Olympiad in all universities will take place from February 11 to 19. The most convenient platform for passing it can be selected in your personal account on the Olympiad website.

Event organizers
The organizers of the Gazprom-2019 Olympics were:

It is noteworthy that any schoolchild in grades 9-11 or student can participate in the event, and it is absolutely free. The registration procedure on the official website of the Olympics will not cause difficulties even for an inexperienced computer user and takes a maximum of 5-7 minutes. After successfully filling out the questionnaire, each participant is assigned his own original number, after which he can begin completing test tasks on dates determined by the organizers.
Olympic Regulations
Many are concerned about the question of when the Gazprom 2019 Olympics will be held. The exact numbers have not yet been established, but the rules of the event are unlikely to change, as a result of which the event, as before, will be held in two stages:
- qualifying stage (conducted remotely via the Internet);
- the final stage (will take place in the classrooms of educational institutions selected by Gazprom).
Testing on the World Wide Web is required in order to weed out the majority of applicants, the number of which has increased tenfold over the past few years. The selection participant is asked to solve several simple problems to determine the approximate level of proficiency in the subject. Upon successful completion of all tasks, a letter will be sent to the participant’s email containing detailed information about the possibility of passing the next stage of the Olympiad. The qualifying stage will most likely start in early March and end on the last day of the same month.
The final full-time stage is held at schools and universities in almost all major cities of Russia (in particular, Kazan, Tyumen, Ufa, St. Petersburg, Moscow, etc.). The questions are focused primarily on an in-depth study of a specific list of subjects or specialties. In other words, there are no easy tasks, and to pass the test you need to demonstrate not only thorough knowledge, but also logical thinking, ingenuity, and a creative approach. The final stage is usually held at the end of April, and the exact dates can be found on the official website of the event.
