Tricks with ropes can be very different: tying incredible knots, unraveling hands from a tightly tied rope, various illusionary tricks. All these performances evoke a lot of emotions in the audience, and by learning these tricks, you can become the central figure of the evening in any company. This article will help you learn how to do tricks from ropes of varying complexity.
Through rope
Take the loop of rope with two fingers so that they are facing towards you. You need to fold the right side of the loop over the left to create another small loop inside the larger one. The place where they connect must be firmly clamped with your teeth.
Using your left thumb, pull the larger loop so that it sits on top of the small one. Next, you should draw the index finger of your right hand from bottom to top through the small loop, and then from the top of the right side of the large loop exactly down to the left side. The final point of movement of the index finger is your forehead. In the figure, the trajectory of the index finger is drawn with a black arrow.
While the index finger touches the forehead, you should pull the large loop with the thumb of your left hand, and then release the rope from your teeth. It will be completely released, and the audience will have the impression that it has completely gone through the finger.
This trick is more like a simple rope trick, but that doesn't make it any less impressive. In it you will learn how to make a trick using a tied rope.
Every magician has a whole set of tricks with ropes. They are tied, untied, and threaded through planks. These tricks can be very simple or very complex, requiring special contraptions. For example, magicians keep a secret trick called - a rope through the body. We will reveal this secret in the next article.
The rope trick is a self-tying rope.
In order for the audience to enjoy the trick, you will have to practice well, because even a simple trick with ropes requires dexterity and dexterity. Learn from simple tricks and gradually move on to complex ones. Take your time and you will succeed. Tricks with knots are considered the simplest; tricks with cutting, tricks with rope and scissors, “reunions” and lengthening of ropes appeared much later.
For this trick you will need a rope.
Announce to your viewers that you have a magic rope that does not hold knots. Show the audience this rope; there should be several ordinary knots on it that are not tightened. To make the audience believe you more, you can tie several knots in front of their eyes. The only condition is that the nodes must be at a short distance from each other. Wrap the rope around your hand, saying the spell: “Alabim-salabim.” Then grab the end of the rope with your other hand and unwind it. Show the rope to the audience - there are no knots on it.
The secret of focus.
Sleight of hand and no magic. As you wrap the rope around your hand, carefully and without the spectators seeing, pull the top end through the knots. When you remove the rope wound in this way, grab the end that went into the knots. As soon as you release the rope, the knots will untie themselves.
Handkerchief and rope
You will need: a rope 1.5-2 m long, a handkerchief, 2 assistants.
You will need two assistants. Give them a rope. One of the spectators must grab the loop with his hand, the other - the free end of the rope. What you should get as a result resembles the letter “I” if you put it on a horizontal surface. Take out a large (most importantly, clean) handkerchief and wrap it around the rope, tying it with a regular knot on top. This knot should not pull the rope too tight. Thread the hanging ends of the scarf into the loops and secure them with two knots at the bottom. Now ask your assistants to release the loops from their hands and pull the loose ends. The handkerchief will hang in the middle of the rope. You approach the handkerchief, say the magic word “conjure-bewitch”, easily turn the handkerchief over so that the ends are at the top, and with a quick movement of your hand, effortlessly remove it from the rope in front of the amazed audience.
The secret of focus.
The trick is in how you tie the handkerchief knot - “toward yourself”.
Focus - living ropes
You will need: 3 ropes of different lengths (40 cm, 30 cm, 20 cm).
Show the audience ropes of different lengths: the longest, medium and short. Place them on your left palm so that their ends hang down. Then clench your left hand into a fist. With your right hand, trim the top ends of all ropes. The viewer sees that the identical ends of three ropes, different in length, protrude from the fist. You need to take these different ends with your right hand and pull them out of your fist, making all three identical. Then throw all the ropes aside and show the audience your empty hands.
The secret of focus.
You must first practice your dexterity, because when holding ropes in your fist, you need to quietly arrange them so that two ends of a long rope and one end of a medium rope hang down, and the other end of a medium rope and two ends of a small rope protrude above your fist. The largest rope and the smallest rope must interlock at their centers. When you line up the bottom ends of all three ropes, they will all appear the same.
After you have learned how to do rope tricks, try
Take a rope, tie a knot in the middle and hold the rope by one end. A miracle will happen to the rope: the knot on it will instantly unravel on its own.
Secret of the trick: A fishing line about a meter long is attached to the lower end of the rope. When you hold the rope in your hand, part of the line lies on the floor. The knot on the rope consists of one turn and does not tighten. Having stepped on the lying fishing line with your foot, you raise your hand with the rope a little up.
The line passing through the knot is stretched and pulls the rope out of the knot. To better guarantee success, it is better to tie a knot not in the middle of the rope, but closer to its lower end.
Place the loop around the index and middle fingers of your left hand.
Place the right string around the back of your thumb. Turn the loop on your thumb clockwise so that a crosshair appears in the center.
Place your left hand from above into the loop located near your right hand. Release your right hand. Now the rope hangs only on the right hand. The free end of the loop is on the left and behind.
Using the index and middle fingers of your left hand, touch your nose. Take the free end of the rope with your right hand and pull your right hand up and to the right. The rope will easily slide off your left hand, which is pressed to your face, and you will be left with your nose!

Rope tied with a scarf
Hand the spectator a rope and ask him to hold it in a taut position by the ends vertically. Take a scarf and tie it around the rope with two knots. Then take the rope from the spectator and tie its ends together.
The scarf and rope will be tied together with three knots. Give the ends of the tied rope to the viewer, and you yourself hold the ends of the scarf. At the same time as the viewer, stretch the ends of the scarf and rope in different directions. As a result, the viewer will be left with a tied rope, and you will have a scarf.
The secret of the trick is tying the scarf. Tie the first knot around the rope with a dummy one, which can come undone if you pull the ends of the scarf. Spread the ends of the scarf apart so that the left end is on the left and the right end is on the right. Draw the right end of the scarf around the rope.
If you now tie another knot, the scarf will not wrap around the rope. Tighten the second knot. Take a rope from a spectator and make a simple knot. Return the ends of the rope to the spectator, and take the ends of the scarf yourself.
By pulling the rope and the scarf in different directions with the viewer, you will get the result: the fictitious knot on the scarf will come undone, and you will have a scarf with one knot in your hands, and the viewer will have a tied rope.
Capture - won't capture
For this trick you will need a meter-long piece of thin cord. Make two double loops out of it on the table (number 8), place your finger in one of the loops and, by pulling the ends of the lace with your free hand, show that the loop has captured your finger. Then do the same, but place your finger in a different loop. The loop will not catch your finger.
After this, place two double loops on the table again and ask the audience to guess which loop you need to put your finger in so that the loop grabs it. All attempts will end in failure - the lace will easily go around your finger.
The secret to the trick is how you lay out the stitches. If you place the lace exactly as shown in Figure A, one of the loops (—) will definitely catch your finger. If you lay out the lace as shown in Figure B, both loops will turn out to be false (—) and they will not catch your finger. Viewers usually do not notice the difference in the loop pattern.
Without untying the ropes
Invite the audience to tie the ends of a regular rope around their wrists. Then, without untying the ends of the rope, again in front of their eyes, tie a knot in the center of the rope.
Secret of the trick: When your hands are tied, grab the middle of the rope and twist it with a rope, making one full turn. Then slide this twisted part under the rope on one of your wrists, and then place a loop of the resulting tourniquet on the same hand.
If you now remove the loop from your hand, passing it through the knotted end of the rope, and spread your arms to the sides, a knot will form on the rope. It should be done in the center of the rope.
Hold the rope loop with two fingers facing you. Fold the right side of the loop over the left so that a smaller loop is formed inside the large loop. Hold the junction of the ropes with your teeth.
Using your left thumb, pull the larger loop until the smaller loop is underneath it. Now slide your right index finger up through the smaller loop and over the right side of the larger loop, down under the left side and towards your forehead.
The black arrow in the picture shows how your index finger should move towards your forehead.
Pressing the index finger of your right hand to your forehead, at the same time with your left thumb, pull the large loop and release the rope from your teeth. The rope will release and it will appear as if it has gone through your finger.
Magic rope
Among the props on your table there is an ordinary rope, which is often needed in household use. Go to the table, take this rope and show it to the audience. “Clothesline,” the viewer thinks. And indeed, you confirm this by tying it in a knot, then folding it in half with a rope.
But once the rope appears in the hands of the magician, then we must wait for a miracle. And the audience is carefully watching what is happening, and the rope in your hand suddenly stretches into a string and freezes in a vertical position. Then you touch the middle of the extraordinary rope with your finger, and it turns into the letter "G". As you touch this rope, it obediently draws various shapes.
After making several shapes, the rope regains its previous appearance. You finish demonstrating this rope trick and place the rope on the illusion table.
Transforming a rope seems like a miracle until you know the secret of this trick. But even after learning the secret, the trick cannot be immediately shown to the audience. It requires careful development. We focus your attention on the last word, because hard work in the work of a magician is the main thing.
For this number you will need: a piece of twisted (round) clothesline 100 cm long, fishing line with a diameter of 0.2 cm and a length of 101 cm and several dozen cylinders 1.5-2 cm long and a diameter 0.1 cm less than the diameter of the rope.
First of all, you should free the piece of rope from the internal threads. In other words, you need to pull out all the internal threads that fill the round rope.
After such an operation, all that will remain of the previous rope is its upper cover, or “stocking,” with a through hole along its entire length. Now we need to prepare several dozen cylinders of aluminum, plastic or wood. The cylinders are strung on a piece of fishing line so that 1 cm is left free at both ends of the fishing line.
Then you need to pull a rope cover over these unique beads. Now the rope again takes on the appearance of a real one, but with the difference that inside it there are cylinders instead of threads. They will form the basis of the rope. The cylinders inside the sheath must be at a certain distance from each other so that the rope can be freely tied into a knot and twisted with a rope, like an ordinary one. The upper end of the rope must be secured tightly, that is, the fishing line and the cover must be fastened so that they hold very firmly. The other end of the fishing line is tied to a white button with a metal eye with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the cylinders. The button should not slip inside the case when the fishing line is pulled.
After the audience is convinced that you have an ordinary rope in your hands, you can proceed to show the act. Take in your hand the end of the rope to which the button is attached. Holding the button between your little and ring (or middle) fingers, pull the line taut by sliding your thumb and forefinger along it. This movement of the fingers will press the cylinders tightly together, and the rope will freeze in a vertical position.
To draw the shape of the letter “L” with a rope, you just need to touch it just above the middle with the index finger of your free hand (relatively right), and release the tension of the fishing line with your left hand. The cylinders at the point of contact will diverge, and the upper part of the rope will lower, depicting the desired figure.
